Collin Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Name the the best spot to travel too, "not in the USA", where the climbing is amazing, the food/drink is cheap as hell, getting there won't kill your wallet, girls, and most important the climbing? Quote
foolscongress Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 depends on the kind of climbing, i guess. i went to peru for a month of alpine fun for $1100, including plane ticket. spent 19 out of 28 days climbing, saw some local ruins, and the people were nice. it was fun enough and affordable enough that i'm planning another trip. Dechristo Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Kyrgyzstan... it's got it all: BIG wall & alpine. No 8k peaks, but Pobedy on the border with China at 7,439M (24,407') is the shiz. Lots of bang for the buck compared to their unit of currency, the som (pronounced "soam") - the average per capita income is 90USD/month. Â ...getting there won't kill your wallet... Â OK, granted you're lookin' at 1,500USD to get there and back. Â To comply with that stricture... go to Mexico. Quote
matt_m Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Not sure if you consider this "not in the USA" per se. Squamish! 1) You CAN DRIVE THERE 2) YOU CAN BRING ALL YOUR OWN FOOD AND CAMP 3) In season - lots if international flavor 4) Ridiculous climbing  Outside US - I've heard Mexico but can't vouch for it personally Quote
cj001f Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 An international ticket will run you >$700 most of the time unless you've got FF miles/other hookups. Add a couple hundred for other fees. Â It won't be as cheap as Bolivia or Peru, but Argentina's pretty damn cheap, has excellent climbing (look up Refugio Frey) and will soon be going up in price as their economy gets back off the ground. Unless some nast job interferes I'm planning to be there for March and most of April. Â You can easily drive to Utah and climb your ass off for less than that. Quote
Dru Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Why the fuck would you bring all your own food to Squamish when Canadian food is cheaper than American by 30-50%? Save money, buy Canadian. Quote
cj001f Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Why the fuck would you bring all your own food to Squamish when Canadian food is cheaper than American by 30-50%? Save money, buy Canadian. Food's cheaper, beer's hella more expensive. Bring booze. Quote
Alpinfox Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Why the fuck would you bring all your own food to Squamish when Canadian food is cheaper than American by 30-50%? Save money, buy Canadian. Â Yeah, but you have to eat "Biftek", Poutine, and weird shit like that. Â So, regarding the original question, do you want to rock climb or snow slog or what? Â And your avatar image sux. Quote
Stefan Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 All of you forgot the most important ingredient. Girls. Squamish girls wear fur. On their legs. Â Dolomites. Drawback=airfare cost. Quote
cj001f Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 All of you forgot the most important ingredient. Girls. You've never been to Argentina I can tell. Quote
Stefan Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 All of you forgot the most important ingredient. Girls. You've never been to Argentina I can tell. Â Ooops! I bin to Mendoza. Lotsa meat there. Quote
Matt Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Thailand. Good climbing. Girls. Cheap. Good food. Beautiful place. Wonderful people. Â They need your money. Quote
Collin Posted January 25, 2005 Author Posted January 25, 2005 Thailand is one of my picks but what about the whole tsunami aspect as for near future climbing? Quote
chris Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Thailand is still paradise. Check this out http://www.simonfoley.com/climbing/ Quote
Collin Posted January 25, 2005 Author Posted January 25, 2005 Thailand is still paradise. Check this out http://www.simonfoley.com/climbing/ That site is very informative. OK next my next question is who knows the cheapest way to get to Thailand, "airfare/airlines", and what is the best time of year for climbing? Quote
plexus Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. Cheap to get there: $400 roundtrip. Bushwackers are great!! Girls in bikinis and you have beautiful granite boulder on the beach. Get too hot, go snorkeling, towel off, boulder some more. Â Best honeymoon I've ever taken!! Quote
Alpine_Tom Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 Why the fuck would you bring all your own food to Squamish when Canadian food is cheaper than American by 30-50%? Save money, buy Canadian. Â Mad cow disease? Quote
Dru Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 Are you going to be swallowing beef on the bone Quote
Collin Posted January 26, 2005 Author Posted January 26, 2005 Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands That place sounds all good but is there any routes to climb? I couldn't find much info on the climbing there other than a few bouldering sites. Don't get me wrong, I love bouldering but I wouldn't mind getting off the ground. Quote
