i’m organizing a trip nearby Waddington for 9 days this summer & am wondering: what have been the most useful/useless items (climbing or comfort related) that you’ve taken for a remote climbing trip; and was there anything you wished you had brought along?

as with the Big Wad, which I am not doing, this’ll be mixed stuff, in the traditional sense.

a plug for White Saddle Air – they will soon have their brand spanking new long ranger in operation –get yourselves booked so Mike can log some practice hours before he flys me in wink.gif the BC forest fires were good to Mike last summer! picture chopper scenes from Apocalypse Now.

This ought to go on a separate thread, but for now - any gear suggestions for up to AD routes in them there parts? i’m thinking Serra one & two for example.

If you have helicopter access I'd recommend a light ice chest with fresh vegetables, eggs, and beer.

Just wonderin' and meanin' no overt disrespect but...presuming a camp somewhere on the Tellot amidst about a billion or so cubic yards of ice...just why would you need an ice chest?

I spent a couple of weeks there once back in the day. I recall wishing for snowshoes or lite skis during afternoon thigh deep postholing. I also recall wishing I had airdropped a lot less stuff as I was packing it down the Tellot to Ephemeron Lake. Go big on consumable treats however as in the wrong year you could spend several of those days in yer tent.

i guess that would change recomending the pee bottle from useful to useless, huh? hahaha.gif

tunes, more tunes, crazy creek chair, hot dogs and oreos

are you doing a basecamp type trip or moving around allot?

okay no ice chest then. I haven't been to this place but I've found it nice in the past when the sun comes out, and to keep ravens etc. at bay. yeah if packing out screw the ice chest, and damn a 2 burner propane would suck to pack out.

Mo brings up a good point: recommendations for gear and luxury items should be made based on whether you will be moving your base camp.

The pee bottle is still a good idea... you'll need a Freshette to "go" along with it.

actually there are scavengers of the black & swooping kind, so i was musing over some sort of cache??

and the pee bottle - if only that could work for me.

I was a little freaked out the first time i saw a gal on a climb pee standing up using one of those things... I assumed it was a guy until I got way too close.

"Uh.... sorry, maam." blush.gif

hmmm, maybe now i can go ahead & buy a pair of those supremely overpriced but only semi zippered theta sk bib pants. btw don't bother with the freshette unless you practice your kegals, ladies.

a board game is good or crib board, but bring one you are evenly matched at vs. your partners. if you can win every game of scrabble no one will want to play you.

Most useful. A couple full bottles of liquor bigdrink.gif for those 48 hours tentbound. Why liquor? Cause if you bring beer youll fill the pissbottles faster and have to go outside in the storm

*warning*

you need a scrabble dictionary when playing dru (as you might imagine) -that fucker knows words for things you didn't even know existed...much more entertaining than his reading collection though: one stale issue of the economist. as fred says, "there ain't even any pussy in that rag!"

porn and drugs are so worth their weight...

I am a full convert to bringing tunes on every trip. MD/mp3/iPod, whatever, crank the volume on a good set of earphones and it's basically a stereo. Very nice when your partner's misanthropic, pessimistic, self-loathing, misogynist,  rants start to wear a little thin tongue.gif

1. a packet of wet wipes will help. you can pick up some in a soft pack instead of the plastic boxes...easier to pack.

2. instead of carrying a bowl and a cup, just carry a bigger cup. you can eat AND drink out of a cup and reduce weight. just take a spoon, ditch the fork.

3. batteries or even better a solar charger with a slot for recharging batteries. reduces weight.

4. a whistle to attract your partner's attention. beats shouting at the top of your lungs

5. a small mirror to reflect sunlight at the rescue party's helicopter in case you are lost in the remote area.

6. Duck tape. ultimate solution for all problems.

Goodluck.
