JoshK Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 To think there are people out there dumb enough to believe that BushCo didn't intentionally decieve the American public. http://www.moveon.org/censure/caughtonvideo/ Quote
Jim Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 It wasn't about sex so I guess we can ignore it. Quote
JoshK Posted March 18, 2004 Author Posted March 18, 2004 Clearly...this is why they can get away with crap like this, nobody seems to pay much attention. I was at least expecting an excuse from one of our right-wing members explaining why this is a good thing. Quote
Jim Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Actually it's the liberal media - just can't count on them to follow a story. Quote

To_The_Top Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Accidentally didn't turn on sound at first and watched what looked like a ton of handwringing on his part Quote
Alex Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 what a classic ambush. i'm all for getting bush and his cabinet out of power, but anyone can be ambushed like that and i think the tactic is sub-par for professional journalists stuff like that is like watching Janet's tit - fascinating, but tasteless. Jim Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Gimme a break! We're talking about the reason Bushy and Rummy gave for going to WAR. It's not just some mild rider put on an appropriations bill in the middle of the night or something. This is for spending tens of Billions of our money, spitting in the face of our allies, and putting our soldiers at rist. And for what? They lied and are now in a stew. Their feet should be held to the fire dammit. It's just that it's not done often enough. Quote

You're fucking kidding, right? As Jim said this wasn't a trip up intended to make him look like he was lying over some technicality. If you don't get it, they LIED on why they took us to war. they claimed, over and over, they were an IMMEDIATE THREAT, when in fact, the evidence was faked and they were little threat all. Not only was that a fair move on their journalist's part, but we should see more of this. Quote
Alex Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 If you don't get it, they LIED on why they took us to war. omfg ! i knew they were lying day one, sorry if you were duped and are just now realizing it! i agree tho that the real pity is that they are all still trying to assert their rightousness and that "WMD will be found!" blah blah. Quote
foraker Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Personally, I was hoping for "It depends on what your definition of 'immediate thread' is'....... Quote

Yes, I clearly realize they were lying, but it's the American voting public, in particular the middle ground that needs this hammered into their thick skulls. My disagreement was that you thought this was a low-blow tactic. This isn't tryinig to trap somebody into a corner about how a blowjob in the oval office went down, this is shit that gets people killed and effects all of us. Quote
foraker Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Low-blow tactic? You mean like spending 40 million USD trying to prove something and, being unable to do that, impeaching him for lying about getting a BJ, sans steak? Oh! For shame! Quote
Alex Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 i hate to say it, but the american voting public doesnt give a shit they are more interested in Janet's tit, Britney's virginity, and the start of baseball season than something half a world away that is virtually invisible....in other words the lack of huge numbers of american casualties have eased the nerves of Joe Q Public, and he can return to his regularly scheduled programming. the US military learned in Vietnam that anything can be pulled off as long as the body bags are kept at a minumum...no matter the cost to the taxpayer, or what reasons are given for an oil agenda Quote
foraker Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 TV = bigger exposed tit than Janet could even dream of. :-) Quote

No kidding. I like the editing technique where as soon as he was about to explain himself... fade to black. Real great journalism. Quote
whirlwind Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 they were skiping the bull shit he cleary states that he never said the was an imediate threat then they quote his ass, catching him in yet another lie, what more do u need i think they should put bush and rumy in a english style parlement debate they wouldn't last 1 hr. Quote
Jim Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 Oh that picture is funny. Can you imagine Bush in front of a hostile parliment trying to answer questions. He could even string together coherent sentences on Meet the Press when they were tossing softballs over the plate. Quote
chucK Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 (edited) No kidding. I like the editing technique where as soon as he was about to explain himself... fade to black. Real great journalism. Watch it again. The deal is, at the start of the video Rumsfeld says that noone ever stated that there was an immediate threat, that it was a fabrication of the media. Then the the reporters read two quotes back to him, from things HE said. The point is made there. No need for a Rumsfeld explanation, he was already caught in an obvious lie. The administrations's lies are obvious. They made these speeches for months about the imminent threat of Saddam, and now they are bold enough to completely deny they even said it! The lies have already been exposed, just not so dramatically juxtaposed with the truth. It's amazing that at this point Rumsfeld would be so brash as to keep repeating that lie at this point when it's so obvious. You may call it an ambush, but I'd say he walked right toward it. The NBC guys just had the guts to pull the trigger. I applaud those NBC talking heads for that! Rummy probably thought they had NBC sewn up or something. I wonder how soon these new FCC regulations are gonna come down on ER with massive fines for graphic violence or depiction of same-sex relationships or something. Edited March 19, 2004 by chucK Quote

I don't care if he lied or not, it is shitty 'journalism' to do that. Pushing your point by 'creative' editing is simply lying as far as I am concerned. I don't deny the lie, but it is still shoddy jounalism. Quote
chucK Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 I don't care if he lied or not, That's the fucking sad part. Half of America doesn't give a shit if the government lies out their asses to do whatever the fuck they want. As long as their republicans, you don't care if they lied. Sad. Quote
klenke Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 Yeah, nobody does give a shit including you ChucK, for I distinctly remember a signature you used to have up for a long while: Nobody died when Clinton lied. Alex: you say "return to their regularly scheduled programming." Beg to differ. They never left their regularly scheduled programming. Quote
chucK Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 WTF are you talking about Klenke? I stick by that signature. Clinton's lie about not having sex with Monica was/is a nonissue for me. Fucking A! I would have lied in that situation too. But lieing consistently to the public about sending the country to war, ordering an actuary to not release his findings that the Medicare bill would cost the taxpayers 100 billion $ more than is being presented, are serious things to lie about, with serious implications. That's not the type of government I want. It's getting close to a dictatorship if they are going to constantly interfere with allowing the public to make informed choices. If someone in government wants to lie about an affair to protect his marriage and personal public image, then that's not going to rankle me near as much. Sheesh. Quote
