pu Posted March 14, 2004 Posted March 14, 2004 How far is it open? Must you still ski the whole thing or can some of it be bicycled or driven. Thanks for the update. Quote
Marko Posted March 14, 2004 Posted March 14, 2004 It was completely snow covered as of March 5th. About 1 ft deep at the beginning. Quote
pu Posted March 26, 2004 Author Posted March 26, 2004 How's the Mountaineers creek road doing these days? Have we shortened our round trip to colchuck to an easy day yet? Quote
klenke Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 On Monday, with a truck or higher clearance vehicle (possibly a Subaru Outback type), you could drive the first 1.5 miles or so to about 2,800-2,900 ft (this was about a mile before the Eightmile Creek Trailhead). After 1.5 miles, there appeared to still be enough snow depth on the road that it wouldn't melt out to the ECTH for another couple of weeks. Also, the gate at Bridge Creek was open. Quote
Paul_Certa Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 Yep, on Friday (3/26) I was able to drive in 1.6 miles in a Subaru Outback - just needed to roll some rocks out of the way. Up until that point, there were only a few small patches of snow to deal with, which have probably melted out since then. Quote
klenke Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 We saw your Suby. We were the black truck that parked in front of you Saturday morning. Â Indeed, the road was as you decribed it. Cool weather lately seems to be stonewalling ("snowwalling"?) the melt-out effort. Not much had changed from Monday to Saturday for the rest of the road up to Eightmile Creek Trailhead. Quote
kurthicks Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 drove up there on 4/3. it's melted out within a half mile or so from the lower TH, probably less as i always overjudge distances. no one was getting any further, even with big trucks. From what i heard, snowshoes are the ticket if you're heading into the Colchuck Lake area. Quote
Minus Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 As of today, still 300 yds short of lower trailhead. Not much snow really, so not too bad to walk up to Stuart trailhead at all. Took us about 20 mins from car to trail head on foot. PM me if you want details of the trail. Quote
John Frieh Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Bump. Â Any update? Info? Â Also: does anyone know where the road gets closed at "full winter conditions"? Isn't it right past snow creek parking lot? Quote
Alex Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Aso: does anyone know where the road gets closed at "full winter conditions"? Â It gets closed at the gate, which is before the bridge across Icicle Creek, by Bridge Creek campground in the bottom of the Icicle. Thats also where the Icicle road gets plowed to in winter. Last I heard Mountaineers Cr road was now officially gated shut, but you should call Leavenworth RS as that was hearsay... Â Alex Quote
John Frieh Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 Leavenworth Ranger station (509-548-6977) does not know complete status however NO GATE up yet... Â Anybody drive it recently? s if you can help me out. Quote
dewey73 Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 Gate was open last weekend 12/11-12 and at that time you could reach Stuart -Colchuck lake th with 4x4 with decent clearance. However, road was icy on way out so chains might be a good idea. Quote
wbk Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Anybody been up this Forest Road in the last few days? I'm curious after the snow that is supposed to come through on Wed/Thursday will mean skinning up the entire road or only parts of it? Â Thanks Quote
