AlpineK Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 It's not spring till after the 21st, but I thought we should get the ball rolling on a fun spring event. Last year we had a fun weekend skiing around Washington Pass and hanging out in the Methow, and I was hoping for the same or better this year. From what I've read of the HWY 20 updates it sounds like the N Cascades HWY will open without a lot of road work. Also David Parker has once again offered up his place in the Methow. Here's how I see things We schedule the Spring Ski In for the second weekend HWY 20 is open. Skiing and climbing all around W pass. I'm sure we've got firewood for a bonfire or 2. We'll probably get a portapotty. I'll see what I can do about beer. For those of you who didn't make it last year the skiing was great, and DP's place is an excellent camping/party spot. Also don't let the whole ski part of the event fool you. You can party after climbing alpine stuff too.
ken4ord Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Yo I'm there!!!!! Been wanting to get up to WA Pass for some backcountry. Sounds like fun. AlpineK let me know if you need any help planning or getting supplies (aka beer).
faster_than_you Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Sounds alright, but I'm headed to Muir this Sat. I wonder if we can build an alpine fire there?
Jopa Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 are snowboarders welcome to join in the fun, or is this an old school event ?
AlpineK Posted March 9, 2004 Author Posted March 9, 2004 are snowboarders welcome to join in the fun, or is this an old school event ? you best not be one of them sideslippin suckas. Yes all snow sliders and spring alpine climbers are welcome. Hell you can even spend the day sport climbing at Fun Rock and still come party.

David_Parker Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 (edited) The date will be announced as we see how they are progressing with the snowplowing. SECOND WEEKEND AFTER THE ROAD OPENS! This will be subject to my personal schedule since it's at my place! Last year I brought my son and I skied with him. He had fun opening our beers for us! ken4ord Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Jopa, I will be boarding it as well. Got Split? Dave, Big thanks going out to you for offering up your place.
Jopa Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Jopa, I will be boarding it as well. Got Split? I'm glad I won't be the only one Unfortunately, though, I don't have a split board. Have you used yours much? How does it ride?
ken4ord Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Hey Jopa they ride great in the soft stuff, but when it is hard pack your better off with a regular board. Try for yourself, there are a few places that rent them. You could probably get one for that weekend.
snoboy Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 So, is this just west of Mazama on Hwy20?? I'm trying to figure out if this might be feasible for me this year.
David_Parker Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 I'll assume you know where Wa Pass is. The property for the even is about 4 miles towards Winthrop from Mazama on Hwy 20, pretty close to the Rocking Horse Ranch if you know where that is. I'll post more details later.
