I have always considered freedom to be a state of mind, a way of being... rather than a political ideology wink.giffruit.gif

True, but they are linked. As whatever current political ideology pushes for their specific agenda, it affects our personal freedom. I.E., the USA Patriot Act (most recently), the entire Medicare Program (thanks, Ted Kennedy), FDR's socialistic New Deal (nice court-packing threats, dude), ad infinitum...

hitler youth

I hadn't thought of that. I guess in the States the NRA is the closest thing to the Hitler youth?

You're clueless. hellno3d.gifrolleyes.gif

yeah flebby, you totally forgot the Greg_W Youth Fan Club (all 2 members) rolleyes.gif

You don't really have much more of a clue, Dru. Come visit the States, let's discuss TRUE freedom.

Ah, forgot about Idaho. Oops.

Actually I kind of got remorseful over my NRA Hitler youth joke. BOO-HOO sniffles. Who'da thunk?

True indeed. Yet I strive to not let others mess with my groove wink.giffruit.giffruit.giffruit.gifwink.gif

Hey, Greg, Flebby's reference reminds me:

you'd be a lot happier in Northern Idaho evils3d.gifthe_finger.gif

I'm happy where I'm at, thank you. I've been to Northern Idaho, Central Indiana and parts of Texas (where the Klan is alive and well in both places), and I prefer it right here in good old Seattle.

Two words: gun safe

rolleyes.gif If you feel the need to buy a gun safe, I encourage you, wholeheartedly, to do so. No governmental body has the right to dictate that I should buy one. I prefer to reach under the mattress and be cocked, locked, and ready to rock, at a moment's notice. thumbs_up.gif

They are all in storage except the .22 with a scope. I need to put a few deer up for the winter.

The "shit is just everywhere" comment referred to in society. I know so many people who are not necessarily into guns but have them laying around their house, in the closet, attic, basement, garage, desk drawer, bureau, pantry, etc.......

confused.gif A .22 isn't legal for deer if it's a rimfire. Think about what you're doing, gaper; you could be breaking the law.

Firearm must be .24cal minimum and generate min. 900ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle. (WA State, anyway)

I think the state fish&wildlife folks might have a problem with your "a few" statement as well.

Better check your game laws. All rim fire weapons are illegal to use on big game.

We have different rules and needs where I live. It doesn't make sense to have gapers running around with 30.06 rifles and too many deer, not enough hunters. Plus, with a Ruger 10/22 and a good scope I can put a slug on a dime at 75 yards. One can pretty much walk up and pet these tame bastards. It's about the meat and population control, not sport. There are game units in Colorado where one can take two deer in a season due to population, our game unit is just not quite official, but it has a long tradition of Local wisdom. The story is, the first time the game warden showed up out here, a couple locals shot the boat right out from under him. There hasn't been much of a presence since.

Guess I was wrong in assuming you lived in WA State. Sorry.

"Right to bear arms" is derived from the fact that British subjects were not treated fairly by their rulers. Our founding fathers did not like the lack of freedom as British subjects. One offensive restriction forbade British subjects from hunting game without permission because it was considered that all game belonged to the Monarch. Well, our founding fathers had the wisdom to realize that leaders only lead with the consent of their fellow citizens.

Now, I do not intend to join a militia to possibly overthrow the government. I enjoy owning a gun because I enjoy

shooting a gun. There's nothing wrong with that. I should not have to make apologies. I am not reading into the Second Amendment to the constitution. I am correctly reading the Declaration of Independence which states that everyone has the rights to "... life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." One past-time which makes me happy is shooting my gun.

If the government wanted to treat us like children and take away all things with which we can intentionally do harm, they should take away our cars. As that woman in Texas demonstrated, a Mercedes is a deadly weapon. Also, they should definitely take away fertilizer and house-hold chemicals since they can be used to make bombs. The government should also take away knives and make us eat with our hands.

I have no intention of running over people with my car, even if I hate their guts, and I certainly don't intend on shooting anyone.

We all have the right as human beings to pursue happiness. When we're happy we work better and are nicer to people around us.

Shooting guns at inanimate objects and game makes many of us happy. So, the focus should not be solely on the Second Amendment. The focus should be on our inherent rights as human beings as indicated in the Declaration of Independence.
