Zee Posted February 5, 2002 Posted February 5, 2002 looking for a good down coat with a hood for Alaska this spring. Not for Denali but for in the Ruth Gorge. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Quote
Zenolith Posted February 5, 2002 Posted February 5, 2002 Hey Xee, Git outa here an choose a name with no Zs in it. That is my letter of the alphabet an you didn't ask. Quote
genepires Posted February 5, 2002 Posted February 5, 2002 Depends on what month you are going. With the ruth being at 5000 ft one can get away with less than other areas in that range. No need for a serious feathered friends coat especially in late may and june. April of course will be colder and may need a down jacket. Late may/june a synthetic jacket would make more sense as it may rain more than snow cause of the low elevation. what time are you going cause I might be there with ya. drop me a line.genepires@hotmail.com Quote

DPS Posted February 6, 2002 Posted February 6, 2002 Dave, If I were to buy a down parka for the use you mentioned, I would buy a Marmot Parbat. That said, get a Wild Things Belay parka. Dan Quote
KeithKSchultz Posted February 7, 2002 Posted February 7, 2002 I bought a Parbat a couple months ago and sent it back. It is sewn through. No baffles. For a little more money you can get a much better coat. I ended up finding a Mountain Hardware sub zero for $250. Just be patient and persistant. This web site is how I found mine. Goose luck. Quote
al Posted February 7, 2002 Posted February 7, 2002 Check out the primaloft belay jackets (with hood) at Pro Mountain : Pro Mountain Sports Quote
