kurthicks Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 i have a cascades trivia question too... Â where did Three Fingered Jack get its name? I have yet to hear a reasonable answer. Quote
DPS Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 How about this one: Â What was the first name proposed for the Triad? Quote

Lowell_Skoog Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 Even more trivial is what the guys who named the Buckindy crags proposed for the name of the peak now called Mt Misch. They wanted to call it Mt Margaret Sanger, after the birth control pioneer. At least that's what they wrote in the summit register. Â (It's possible that another party proposed that name, but I think it was the Buckindy crag party.) Quote
iain Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 I thought TFJ was named from the Corvallis area, where only 3 of the 5 spires are visible. Actually there are a lot of spots where it looks like only 3 spires are visible. Same goes for the view from Marion Lake Quote
kklimber Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 Interesting, I thought it WAS Margaret Sanger. I was up there in 1989 (we were the next party in after you, LS), in mid-July. Need to rename that slide. Quote
kurthicks Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 iain that's the best explaination that i've heard so far. thanks for the pics. i don't get that view from my neck of the woods. i still think someone was enjoying some or something when they named it... Quote
Dru Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 Aren't Jack's other 7 fingers over near mt. maude? 3fJ plus 7Fj = two hands of Jack. Quote
Ursa_Eagle Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 so then what's Jack Mtn doing up by Ross Lake? Is that his schlong? Quote
