  1. The "regular" is 5'9" and the "long" is 6'4" per my 2003 Moonstone brochure.
  2. i used one all last summer also. it's a great bag.
  3. thanks. yes, a great effort either way.
  4. i didn't think the question was that difficult. who said anything about debating? i'm not questioning their effort or the style it was carried out in. i have any no interest in debating rules or do i have any interest in establishing a set of rules. as i said, i am curious whether it was supported or not. what does the ironman, a sanctioned event, have to do with my question? the ironman is supported and it would be a coupletely different event if it weren't. why don't you let the guy that knows, answer the question.
  5. Jeremy, Do you know if that was a "self-supported" effort? Did they carry all of their own food, water, and gear? Just curious about the rules of "the record". thx.
  6. stim lead illusion dweller free at josh this spring. a pretty solid .10b in my mind.
  7. the question - did they bail off onto iconoclast or did they do hyperspace?
  8. i went by there sunday afternoon. it's about 15 minutes up the middle fork trail. all the routes were dry even though it is north facing. a tarp would be handy because the ground is damp.
  9. actually, you can't see the CMC until you are by bridge cr. campground. you are probably refering to the hook creek drainage that takes you up to the mole and the duolith. it is directly across the valley from givler's.

    INGALLS PEAK

i was up there 2 weeks ago (sat.) and i was turned around by the notorious snow patch at about 5.5-6 miles from the road end. if you make it past this, you are usually good to go for quite a ways. i was there again last sat. and i made it past the original patch, but was thwarted a half mile up the road by a 3ft. deep, snowmobile packed patch. nobody had crossed this patch or was going to unless they were on a "machine". the snow is melting fast, but i have no idea what snow patches are beyond the one that stopped me.
  11. Jason, Yes, I'm familiar with the history of the mountain. I believe the routes to the true summit take even longer (than SD) - it is a big hill. I don't disagree with your comments. I don't know Michael and I hope he didn't take offense - that was not my intention. I know Matt, and yes, I was having some fun with him. I see how that may not have been apparent. I've always thought Matt was a strong and resourcesful climber and he did a good job getting himself out of an unfortunate situation.
  12. Well articulated response Matt. I wasn' t really aware of all those statements made by the media. Yes, I agree, they are quite ridiculous. That descent is not a straight forward walk-off and I doubt you guys will be the last to make that mistake. I hope you didn't take my jabs (hiker/Mountaineers) to seriously because they were supposed to be funny. Peace.
  13. Matt, Let me get this straight. It's the media's fault that your family was concerned/worried? You were the one that a) took 2 days to do a grade III+ b) Couldn't find the obvious descent gully and c) it was your friend that called SAR Am I missing something? I think the media was spot on regarding "hikers" because it sounds like you did alot of hiking. Only on Cascade Climbers would people say "great job". Was this a Mountaineers outing? I'm glad you guys are ok.
  14. jason, where is crazy eightball bob's new route on colfax peak in relationship to the 1986(?) andreas schmidt/tom bridge route?
  15. all most as ridiculous as requiring a shovel and probe to race in a controlled ski area. i think they should require one quickdraw hanging from each skiers pack too, just in case they need to clip a bolt along the way.
  16. news at 11:00 said, "2 skiers, experienced, departed from crystal on the 28th." as fleb said, i hope they are hunkered and doing ok.
  17. yes, i should have said "backcountry".
  18. I just caught the end of a blurb on the news about some BC skiers that were overdue or missing. Crystal Mtn. to White Pass was mentioned as the BC tour. Any correlation with posts here?
  19. MM, Whatever! I and everyone I know will still be doing it. Good luck to the patrolling efforts and their ability to do anything about it. So, are they going to bust me for skiing south of Three Way to Chinook Pass or any of the other South back terrain where the downhillers don't go. What will they do punch my pass? Good luck. Attention: BC skiing is now illegal and all must only ski in controlled ski areas and conform to their rules.
  20. "btw, the photo of gorilla bar features daler" if that's DR, he must have borrowed that coat, pants, crampons, boots, tools, and gloves because he doesn't own any of that gear. it looks like he must have had plastic surgery too.
  21. it was done in 14 hours (car to car) plus change in august. it's all relative.
  22. And, "wicked fast" is relative. OS has been done in 18 minutes and cut AL's car to car time in half.
  23. Don was an avid climber. He was glissading down Asgaard, hit ice, and lost control. He ruptured his spleen. Jim McCarthy was there and I think Skip Edmunds (doc) was too? They spent the night at their Colchuck camp, but Don didn't make it. The climbing community was much smaller back then too. I've thought about that everytime I've descended Asgaard in the snow.
