CrazyFlattlander Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 (edited) Ooops, sorry trying finalize plans for a big climbing trip this weekend. Guess it gave you time to catch your breath Alpine. Nah, Trask is cool, even though I have seen him go off topic and ranting a few times (ok, a lot). You have not figured it out yet....the Constitution doesn't give you the right to do anything other than what it says. If you congressman helped push a law through the House that ended up on the President's desk, was signed and then became a law that said you can't be in possesion of weed, then so be it. You had your state rights, right there when your congressman voted on this bill. If later your state has new law makers that disagree, then yeah they can pass a state law that says you can have weed, but that does not mean the feds are going to like it. You can't run and end around on a fourth and inches. So get your congressman to start a bill that will repeal the said law. I don't care if you got a 2 foot roach...have at it. Ask yourself...if your state passes a law and it is challenged in federal court as unconstitutional and the court rules that it is unconstitutional....then is that judge a Nazi for handcuffing state's rights? Nope, now sit down. Edited May 29, 2003 by n98947 Quote
Alpinfox Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 This is a poem made up entirely of actual quotes from George W. Bush, arranged by Washington Post writer Richard Thompson: MAKE THE PIE HIGHER by George W. Bush I think we all agree, the past is over. This is still a dangerous world. It's a world of madmen and uncertainty and potential mental losses. Rarely is the question asked, Is our children learning? Will the highways of the internet become more few? How many hands have I shaked? They misunderestimate me. I am a pitbull on the pantleg of opportunity. I know that the human being and the fish can coexist. Families is where our nation finds hope, where are wings take dream. Put food on your family! Knock down the tollbooth! Vulcanize society! Make the pie higher! Make the pie higher! Quote
AlpineK Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 N Big climbing plans? in Chicago...hahaha whatever If your for states rights then you would fight to repeal a federal law that conflicted with a state law, or at the very least you would look the other way. Asscroft has gone out of his way to mess with laws passed by the states. I think the fact that you can't understand that is related to your notion that you could have big climbing plans while you live in the flatlands. Quote
CrazyFlattlander Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Off to Hood this weekend dickhead. Feel free to come to Timberline and debate me some more. States are not as sovereign as our country is. Once they can stop asking the Federal government for money, then you can have all the state rights that you want. Quote
Dwayner Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Alpine K say: "Bush is an idiot, a fascist. He's appointed an attorney general who is a member of the Nazi party and the KKK. Bush is not capable of doing anything good." Uh...under ordinary circumstances, your first statement would be libelous. I also suggest that you ask Condaleeza Rice and Colin Powell (black), along with Ari Fleischer (Jewish) and a few other prominent folk if the KKK and Nazism are part of the program. I don't think so. Furthermore, regarding the second comment, a smart guy like you should have a more open mind. - your pal, Dwayner Quote
Alpinfox Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Idiot - noun, 1. A mentally deficient person ... incapable of learning connected speech. If you review the "poem" I posted above, I believe the evidence speaks for itself. Quote
CrazyFlattlander Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 That is some classic Bush stuff there AlpineFox...It is part of his charm? LOL..You have to admit that it is hard to be perfect all of the time. I know I have a hard time. Quote
Alpinfox Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 No, I don't find it charming. I find it scary. Bush is "not the sharpest knife in the drawer" as his mother said of him once, and I don't sleep well knowing that a genuinely stupid, and incapable man is at the helm of the ship. Be afraid, be very afraid. Quote
Sphinx Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Bullshit. Gore would fuck it up, which you can't say about Shrub. Bush speaks like hell, but he isn't stupid...even if he sounds it. Quote
CrazyFlattlander Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 That is some funny shit. I would really like to see that quote and the context it was taken in. I freely admit that he does provide some entertainment. Quote

All you republicans are suppose to be for State rights, however Asscroft has used his office to block OR's assisted suicide rule and CA's medical marijuana law. Both of those laws were initiatives passed by the state's residents. The tax cut that just got passed is all for rich people. There are two types of republicans, rich people and suckers. In case you were'nt aware of it, Nazi is short for National Socailst. I sincerely doubt Ascroft can be called that, Consider this: WE DEMAND THAT THE GOVERNMENT UNDERTAKE THE OBLIGATION ABOVE ALL OF PROVIDING CITIZENS WITH ADEQUATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR EMPLOYMENT AND EARNING A LIVING. THE ACTIVITIES OF THE INDIVIDUAL MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO CLASH WITH THE INTERESTS OF THE COMMUNITY, BUT MUST TAKE PLACE WITHIN ITS CONFINES AND BE FOR THE GOOD OF ALL ... WE DEMAND THE NATIONALIZATION OF ALL BUSINESSES WHICH HAVE BEEN AMALGAMATED (INTO TRUSTS). WE DEMAND THAT THE STATE SHALL SHARE IN THE PFOFITS OF LARGE INDUSTRIES. WE DEMAND THAT PROVISION FOR THE AGED SHALL BE MADE ON A VERY GREATLY INCREASED SCALE. WE DEMAND A LAND-REFORM SUITABLE TO OUR NATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, THE PASSING OF A LAW FOR THE CONFISCATION OF LAND FOR COMMUNAL PURPOSES; THE ABOLITION OF INTEREST ON MORTGAGES, AND PROHIBITION OF ALL SPECULATION IN LAND. WE DEMAND AN AGRARIAN REFORM SUITABLE TO OUR NATIONAL REQUIREMENTS; THE ENACTMENT OF A LAW TO EXPROPRIATE WITHOUT COMPENSATION THE OWNERS OF ANY LAND THAT MAY BE NEEDED FOR NATIONAL PURPOSES; THE ABOLITION OF GROUND RENTS; AND THE PROHIBITION OF ALL SPECULATION IN LAND. ...THE STATE SHALL ORGANIZE THOROUGHLY THE WHOLE CULTURAL SYSTEM OF THE NATION . . . THE CONCEPTION OF THE STATE IDEA (THE SCIENCE OF CITIZENSHIP) SHALL BE TAUGHT IN THE SCHOOLS FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. WE DEMAND THAT SPECIALLY TALENTED CHILDREN OF POOR PARENTS, NO MATTER WHAT THEIR STATION OR OCCUPATION, SHALL BE EDUCATED AT THE COST OF THE STATE. IT IS THE DUTY OF THE STATE TO HELP RAISE THE STANDARD OF THE NATION'S HEALTH BY PROVIDING MATERNITY WELFARE CENTRES, BY PROHIBITING JUVENILE LABOUR, BY INCREASING PHYSICAL FITNESS THROUGH THE INTRODUCTION OF COMPULSORY GAMES AND GYMNASTICS. . . . (WE) COMBAT THE MATERIALISTIC SPIRIT WITHIN AND OUTSIDE US, AND ARE CONVINCED THAT A PERMANENT RECOVERY OF OUR PEOPLE CAN ONLY PROCEED WITHIN ON THE FOUNDATION OF "THE COMMON GOOD BEFORE THE INDIVIDUAL GOOD." -- From the "Twenty-Five Point" Programme of the German National Socialist Workers Party, authored by Adolf Hitler and others on February 24, 1920. Alpinfox Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Another definition for ya'll: Fascism - noun - A system of government that exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with belligerent nationalism. Extreme right... Union of State/Business leadership... belligerent nationalism... Sounds like the Bush administration to me. Check out www.bushorchimp.com Here is a photo from GW's early political days, or "The Cocaine & Alcohol Years" as we liberals like to refer to them: p.s. Yup, that's me on the right. Quote
MtnGoat Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 (edited) "The tax cut that just got passed is all for rich people." Yeah, if you consider rich people those who actually pay taxes. This will save me a good grand or more, and I'm hardly rich. "Dems have never made a big deal about states rights." Of course they don't! If they did that, they'd have to recognize some limit to their megalomania and basic instinct to butt into everyone elses buisness. Edited May 29, 2003 by MtnGoat Quote

" That's odd, considering the govts historically known as as Fascist, such as Germany's Nazi's and Mussolini's govt, as well as N Korea and others, are all socialist. The definition provided by the poster provides the proof of fasicms being a form socialism, but the author of the definition was too inept to realize it. When you merge state with buisness ownership, you don't get a right wing govt, you get socialism by definition. Edited May 29, 2003 by MtnGoat Quote

Well, since you are a mindless monkey you would feel that way. Just get in line and head up the way everyone else does. Not me, I will be surprised if we see more than a few people on our route. And yeah, Hood is big plans for a guy that comes from the midwest. Hell, the biggest thing I have out here to climb is your mom! Edited May 29, 2003 by n98947 Quote
Rodchester Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Constitution doesn't give you the right to do anything other than what it says No comment on the Bush v. Clinton/Gore thing...but let me correct the above statement. It is often said that the consitution gives rights to Americans. This is said by many, right, left, democrat, republican, moderates, etc. All of them are incorrect. One of the key tenants of our system is that the inalienable rights that we have were bestowed upon each person by "thier creator." The consititution simply recognizes that our rights that are god given (I'm an agnost, so don't get bogged down in what if your an agnost or an athiest, the point is by "thier crerator' not"the creator") and that the rights belong to us by birth. The Consitution, the Articles of Confederation, and the crown never gave us anything. They were put in place to protect rights, not give. When the crown tried to give and take it was dispensed with. When the Articles were unable to effectively rule, the states agreed to a Federal Republic with a Consitution to protect rights. This may sound like a semantic game, but it has critical meaning. The old saying: What the lord gives, the lord takes away. If you read it logically: what the constitution gives, the constitution takes away. The constitution doesn't take away, it does not give. It protects, it is the limits of power when power effects rights. Now it can be said that many "powers" were taken from the states and given to the federal government by the constitution. That is correct. There is a difference between a power and an individual right (though they obviously effect each other). Sorry to ramble, but it is a key and important distniction often lost and or misundertood. Quote

I am preparing for a first time ascent of Hood next Saturday. I hope the warm temps don't screw it up. Although you're probably right about seeing very few people on that route. If you're head is that far up your ass, you wouldn't see very many people anywhere... Quote

Hood as big plans that's a hoot. You must be quite a climber being able to walk uphill on snow. The midwest is the sewage lagoon of North America. Quote
CrazyFlattlander Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Just checking on conditions and possible routes. I don't care to do the hogsback what so ever. We are thinking of a hike up to illumination rock, then to crater rock, then to the summit via the old crater variation route. Now do tell! How many people do you expect I would see other than my climbing partner. And I am not talking about a half mile away. Quote
Ursa_Eagle Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 lots, and you still will most likely descend the south side Quote
