Ooops, sorry trying finalize plans for a big climbing trip this weekend. Guess it gave you time to catch your breath Alpine. Nah, Trask is cool, even though I have seen him go off topic and ranting a few times (ok, a lot).

 

You have not figured it out yet....the Constitution doesn't give you the right to do anything other than what it says. If you congressman helped push a law through the House that ended up on the President's desk, was signed and then became a law that said you can't be in possesion of weed, then so be it. You had your state rights, right there when your congressman voted on this bill. If later your state has new law makers that disagree, then yeah they can pass a state law that says you can have weed, but that does not mean the feds are going to like it. You can't run and end around on a fourth and inches. So get your congressman to start a bill that will repeal the said law. I don't care if you got a 2 foot roach...have at it.

 

Ask yourself...if your state passes a law and it is challenged in federal court as unconstitutional and the court rules that it is unconstitutional....then is that judge a Nazi for handcuffing state's rights? Nope, now sit down.

If your for states rights then you would fight to repeal a federal law that conflicted with a state law, or at the very least you would look the other way. Asscroft has gone out of his way to mess with laws passed by the states.

 

I think the fact that you can't understand that is related to your notion that you could have big climbing plans while you live in the flatlands.

That's odd, considering the govts historically known as as Fascist, such as Germany's Nazi's and Mussolini's govt, as well as N Korea and others, are all socialist.

 

The definition provided by the poster provides the proof of fasicms being a form socialism, but the author of the definition was too inept to realize it. When you merge state with buisness ownership, you don't get a right wing govt, you get socialism by definition.

Constitution doesn't give you the right to do anything other than what it says

 

No comment on the Bush v. Clinton/Gore thing...but let me correct the above statement.

 

It is often said that the consitution gives rights to Americans. This is said by many, right, left, democrat, republican, moderates, etc.

 

All of them are incorrect. One of the key tenants of our system is that the inalienable rights that we have were bestowed upon each person by "thier creator." The consititution simply recognizes that our rights that are god given (I'm an agnost, so don't get bogged down in what if your an agnost or an athiest, the point is by "thier crerator' not"the creator") and that the rights belong to us by birth. The Consitution, the Articles of Confederation, and the crown never gave us anything. They were put in place to protect rights, not give. When the crown tried to give and take it was dispensed with. When the Articles were unable to effectively rule, the states agreed to a Federal Republic with a Consitution to protect rights.

 

This may sound like a semantic game, but it has critical meaning. The old saying: What the lord gives, the lord takes away. If you read it logically: what the constitution gives, the constitution takes away.

 

The constitution doesn't take away, it does not give. It protects, it is the limits of power when power effects rights. Now it can be said that many "powers" were taken from the states and given to the federal government by the constitution. That is correct. There is a difference between a power and an individual right (though they obviously effect each other).

 

Sorry to ramble, but it is a key and important distniction often lost and or misundertood.

Just checking on conditions and possible routes. I don't care to do the hogsback what so ever. We are thinking of a hike up to illumination rock, then to crater rock, then to the summit via the old crater variation route. Now do tell! How many people do you expect I would see other than my climbing partner. And I am not talking about a half mile away.
