JGowans Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 7/12...not bad for a foreign bastard like me Quote
catbirdseat Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 I am ashamed. I missed one. I didn't know there were that many amendments. Jason, I would expect you foreigners to do better than we natives. Quote
fern Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 I got 7/12 too. I wonder what the scores would be for a similar tests about other countries' governments. Quote
Distel32 Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 bwahahaha 12/12. oh the joys of having worked for the national government and taking poli. sci. not too long ago Quote
iain Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 bah those dates and numbers are hardwired into every kid's head. who cares when the constitution was written as long as you have it within 20 years or so? I think u.s. and world geography is more important. Quote
catbirdseat Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 The whole point of that question is that this country bumbled along for quite a few years before our mode of government was decided upon. Most people make the mistake of assuming that the constitution followed immediately after the Declaration of Independence. Quote
Distel32 Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 Good old articles of confederation, didn't work so well Quote
iain Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 I see. Can you point to the last 5 geograpical locations on the planet were the US has been employing physical violence in your name? I find that pretty important. Sorry to be a smartass, (esp when I'm not so smart) Quote
specialed Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 I defenitly take issue with a few of those questions though. The duty of the Supreme Court is in a sense to oversee Congress and the President. In fact, many political science scholars might say it is the primary duty of the Supreme Court. Although theoretically oveseeing congress and the president is not the Supreme Court's mandate, it is what happens in a de facto sense. This test sucks Quote
iain Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 just because you got a low score and shouldn't be a citizen is no reason to be grumpy Quote

And what Distel said except if seems my memory is better than I thought it was. I have not had the recent experience of these things. Quote

This test sucks You are thinking of the Judicial branch as a whole. Have you ever read a supreme court ruling? You just have the old rudimentary checks and balances shit stuck in your head. In what way does the supreme court oversee congress and the president, be it de jure or de facto. Quote
dryad Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 12/12 Woo hoo! Anyway, let's see if I can come up with the most recent 5 instances of US military involvement: Iraq (Gulf War II), Somalia, Yugoslavia, Colombia (drug war), Iraq (Gulf War I). I'm sure I'm missing some smaller ones in there. Quote
