  1. I was thinking along the same lines. As with the Kennedy assassination there are always people who'd like to believe in fantasy.
  2. It's not necessarily surprising that he'd be found like a rat - look at the capture of the Nazis - few fought to the death. I am curious what proof they have that the person they found is Saddam - after all this is a paranoid psyhcopath with tens of body doubles who hasn't been seen in public in years.
  3. 14) If someone volunteers to help push your car out of a drift - have your passengers get their fat asses out of the car! 15) 4WD helps you go in the snow. It does absolutely jack shit to help you stop. 16) It's called downshifting. Those things to the right of D.
  4. Depending on where you are located, check out the Mountaineers, Mazamas, or AAC library.
  5. That's some of the lightest powder I've ever seen on the West Coast. Go get some!
  6. Like I said elsewhere (before it was deleted) the inmates are running the asylum. Some of the most juvenille assenine comments on this board come from moderators.
  7. Less now. Most Airlines are now 50-55lbs per checked bag, max 2. That blows.
  8. Amusing edits to this Thread moderators!
  9. The checked back screeners at LAX recently spent time querying me on the purpose of my trekking poles. I highly doubt you'll be able to take them on board (pre 9/11 I was able to take an Ice Axe as carry on)
  10. You can hike in over the dam - there's a trail running along the North Side.
  11. And then there's Lake Fowell.
  12. Not a Black Arrow?
  13. There's routes listed in the Roper's Climber's Guide to the High Sierra, as well as some accounts in the AAJ. Harding did one. It's been discussed here before. Search. I find the irony of eco-friendly San Francisco being vehemently opposed to even considering alternate water sources than Hetch-Hetchy amusing.
  14. Skinning the road sucks. Aside from a few bilers you'd have Adams to yourself though.
  15. No! You have to buy the special Southern Hemisphere compass!
  16. Two deaths for every three years of climbing? How the heck does an office-wank from Spain manage to find this thread on this little website? That's according to here: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3538844&thesection=news&thesubsection=general Apparently one of the Latvians had summited all 7 summits: http://www.everestnews.com/4002expcoverage/asadday12092003.htm
  17. Given that high quality picture, yes
  18. Otago University researcher Dr Murray Malcolm found there were 1.87 deaths for every 1000 days spent climbing.
  19. I was skiing nicely at Kirkwood one day when I hear someone yelling over my shoulder "Hey Man Watch Out" and turn to see an out of control snowboarder aiming right for me. He hit me, bounced facefirst into the fresh snow, and I kept on truckin'
