The higher the DIN, the harder it is to put on the heel. You don't have to stomp on the heel to get into tele's (depending on your binding), but I find leaning down to futz with levers equally puckering. Ski crampons should be easy to put on - brakes I leave at home, unless I'm going to a resort.

Many of the touring/tele skis on the market are the same/minimally different than production alpine skis. Example - Atomic Sugardaddy/Teledaddy. The Teledaddy is a sugardaddy without the stupid binding plate. The bindings won't take abuse like jumping off cliffs, or moguls all day - but who wants to waste their time with that?

2nd wind usually has some ski stuff - also try upstairs at Storm Warning they've got used BC stuff (tele, AT, splitboards). The REI discount skins are functional - I'd spend a little extra and get the mail order Glidelites from sierratradingpost instead.

The shrike is similar to the metal shafted X-15's (red) of a couple years ago. Shaft may be a bit lighter. The shrike is not the same as the older, bonded rubber shaft (BRX) X-15's of several years back, that look like a Black Prophet without a fluted shaft, and without a replaceable head.
