  1. Digital also has a maximum pixel resolution. It's called the Rayleigh Criterion. The lens quality usually comes into play long before this, or film resolution matters. If your interested in comparing the image quality of various SLR lenses check out www.photodo.com For real world shooting, compression does matter - few us want to deal with multiple 5MB images. And image compression is something that vary's substantially between digital camera brands.
  2. Definitely Doesn't Compare
  3. Depends. Some of the digital cameras allow you to output in uncompressed (Nikon Coolpix?). Digital cameras are approaching 35mm film in resolution - but medium & large format cameras far outshine in resolution (these are what you need if you want poster size prints)
  4. Indeed! I used to mock P&S, until I bought one. I find I take 10x the number of pictures now, compared to the few trips I lugged around a SLR.
  5. Fiends are the ones who like hauling around an SLR with a good quality Zoom!
  6. I use a point & shoot case from Lowepro (D-Res 8S). The Beltloop on the back is attached on oneside with velcro. I attach it to the shoulder straps of my backpack - really quick and easy to take out for a quick picture. Battery can get a bit cold in winter.
  7. So why are the spiltboarders always whining about performance at Couoloirmag?
  8. If you "oldfarts" want something other than trauma park twerps, check out Snow Falling on Sinners
  9. Because they're as wide as a snowplow, and as heavy? I suppose it depends on your definition of "touring". Mine would be multiple days out in the woods - many peoples seems to be daytrips & yoyoing.
  10. Related to the Avalanche possibly?
  11. I just got a chance to try my new Crossbows out! They rock! They'd rock a bit harder with a slightly beefier boot(whens the Pajama sale!?). I've got Freerides & Lasers, and the lasers are a bit soft for higher speed in tight conditions. Out in Upper Heather - sweet! I've heard alot of different reviews of the ski, and the differing opinions tend to track what length was tested. Sounds like they might not have scaled it well, so definitely demo it.
  12. We know you used your super secret Snaffle Ray Sensors to track his movements!
  13. Goods should be priced what they actually cost society. Currently we all subsidize the trucking industry - no matter our patterns of consumption.
  14. How dare you insult Boeing, an honest and trustworthy company supported by WA's fine Democratic delegation to congress! Klenke - If you wish to raise the funds to fix americas roads and bridges, the free market (and in my mind correct) solution is to tax those who cause the damage. Disporportionately this is the trucking industry - tax them based on miles driven & weight carried. And if you actually look at the federal budget - the vast majority of the discretionary spending is defense.
  15. Perhaps arguing miltant religous belief on all sides (atheism, christianity, islam, etc.) leads quickly to discord?
  16. That's pretty much standard procedure for sweep. You think they are going to send 1 person? Mountains have been sued for not finding people quickly enough - they have no idea the skier's condition, or how soon they'll find him.
  17. That's the part thats a bit much. Charging the rescuee because someone screwed up the snowcat?
  18. I think your a bit off on that conversion. It varies by boot brand, but my 10.5's were about 320ish, remember it's the actual lenght of the boot, not your foot...
  19. Get a lesson because you can seriously damage a friendship having a friend teach you how to ski.
  20. Blasphemer! Blasphemer! Tele is the one true way! Tele gear must be completely indestructible and weigh 1lb!
  21. Skiing!
  22. AT gear still has greater release capabilities than any of the tele bindings out there.

    I ruined it

Depending on how much is there, and if it's your carpet or not, a strategic clipping of the offending carpet fibers works well.

    Scratched Skis??

Some of us are just lazy. For a dumb joke: Whats the difference between a slalom gate and a snow boarder? The gates got more brains.
  25. Cman- I suggest you look at the following study: http://www.bcaccess.com/pdf/CompanionRescue_Atkins.pdf It'd be good to remember that a pro(well practiced) with an analog can find someone roughly as quick as an amateur with a digital beacon. The odds are alot worse than 5% that you'll die if caught in an avalanche. I'm not trying to argue safety equipment is useless - but bugs analogy of a faulty parachute is correct. You are playing Russian Roulette if you think you can get caught in an avalanche and survive.
