A strong military works pretty well as a deterrant to the invasion of the homeland, but pre-emptive invasions over seas seem only to weaken the military and threaten national and economic security.

The issues in this case involve President Clinton's Roadless Rule, which basically prevented logging and road building within Inventoried Roadless Areas (IRAs). The court held that a parking lot constructed in the IRA is not a "road" and the cutting of trees was "incidental" to the expansion of the facilities and therefore permitted by the Roadless Rule.

I found these shoes and wasn't able to locate the rightful owner after several attempts. The rubber on these shoes is new with sharp edges and no wear on the toes. Asking $70 obo. They retail for about $135. Located in Portland, but I'll ship them in the US at my expense. Need a new cam!

we had a most excellent weekend! and basically just climbed the classic crag lines. but yeah we prolly don't rate too good on the iq scael.

Etiquette is shot these days - saw a bunch of random behavior at Squish this weekend. Party was setting up to rap into High Mountain Woody while I was topping out on the route, and by the time I got to the anchor it was clogged with their gear. They couldn't walk around or wait ten minutes. Then they rapped down on top of a party getting ready to lead Paul's Crack. Saw a guide climb up someone's ass at the belay station on Exasperator while the leader was moving out towards his first piece and then she ran the rope through the rings, lowered off and TR'd her two clients on the fixed gear. Saw a random rope abandoned altogether at Neat and Cool on Tuesday morning - someone said the guys that set it up took off and hadn't come back in like an hour. Yeah, you have to expect crowds at a place like the Smoke Bluffs on a holiday weekend, but I think a little friendly communication could help. Seems like its getting worse. That said, I didn't speak up when I had the chance at HMW, b/c I figured I'd just suck it up and deal without making an issue of it, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Its been a long time since I was there, but I doubt weekend are practical because of transportation times etc. Hiking yes - alpine climbing probably not. There is some cragging fairly close to town, but you'll scoff at it coming from the PNW. But you can stay in shape. Also maybe this has changed, but the air quality was freaking awful - so bad that I would not want to live there and subject my lungs to the thick layer of diesel fumes and particular matter. Many of the people I met on the trail had picked up some sort of bronchial bug in town before leaving. It may be better now.

There is also this, which I haven't tried but have heard good things.
