Nice. I was up in AK in May as well and got in a day skiing up above Whittier while the snowmachiners were at work. 40 mph wind kind of sucked but the views were awesome. I've heard the skiing from the Shrode Lake Cabin is sweeet. Link.

Portland rocks. The climbing scene kicks ass, and there's tons of stuff within a days drive providing endless opportunities for adventure.

So hold on - the AAC opens a campground on private lands adjacent to a campground on state land. The concern is that the state will then trade away the state campground to MP, which is also a co-operator of the adjacent private campground? Do I have this right? Seems to me like the state would find itself in a shit-storm of public outcry if it tries to trade away public facilities to an operator of a competing private facility. Instead of coming down on the AAC, you might want to start organizing folks to begin telling the state how important public facilities are despite the development of private facilities in the area. You should also look into what types of laws govern trades of state land and disposal of public property in New York. Each state has a separate set of laws - here in Oregon there is often an "equal value" requirement for land trades and they must also be found to be in the "public interest." New York I'm sure has different laws. Start making your case now and shape your message to be consistent with your state laws and disposal of state land. If you're ahead of the ball and have a strong base of support, you'll be perceived as advocating FOR something with a positive vision instead of just being reactionary and saying no to a project. Attacking the AAC and dividing the climbing community is unlikely to get you any closer to your objective of protecting public facilities.

Hey how about a Google gadget that sends all the trip reports to your Google homepage? That would be sweeet!

[TR] Rexford Group - Ensackwatch Enchainment 7/28/
Winter replied to JanD's topic in British Columbia/Canada
this has been high on my list since seeing these peaks from the slesse group. thanks for the tr. -
Pax, looking up at the gully you guys climbed, we were probably two gullies to the climber's right - or NE from there. It didn't top out close to the summit but at a col below a subsidiary or false summit. Shorter and not as steep. The deep new snow prevented us from trying for the summit, b/c by the time the weather cleared the two gullies that led towards the summit were seriously letting loose, but they look like great ski lines in the right conditions.

Joe Stock ran a piece in Backcountry magazine several years ago on a ski tour in the Mendehall Towers area. Maybe try to check that out for some ideas/inspiration.

More Lover's Leap Stokey! Hospital Corner! Easy .10a. The Line! Easy 5.9 except for the fist couple of moves. Haystack, Bears Reach, Surrealistic Pillar - all most excellent and fairly straighforward climbs. Link 'em up - you can knock out several in a day! Wish I was headed there soon. If you have some extra time, go check out Phantom Spires. The Supertaco book has good information. Its well worth the trip. Have fun!

I don't see this as a ban to all foot traffic but rather a trail closure.
