  1. Recent pictures of the Skyladder are depressing. I climbed it 1982. The thing was solid ice without even a hint melting in July of that year. That's one of many signs of what kind of influence Climate Change is having.
  2. Edith Cavell is different these days or ever since the road to the base of the mountain was swept away. I'm a little bothered the closest I ever made it to Victoria was cragging at Back of the Lake.
  3. On our second trip up Roaring Ridge route finding was easier. Conditions were nice too. We ended up making it to the high point for a couple laps. Good stuff
  4. Join the Parade
  5. I believe all Level 1 trainings (Aiare, NSP) are the same or carry the same weight.
  6. Never done that approach, but have considered dropping into the upper part of Varden Creek after climbing the standard Silver Star approach. The upper Varden basin looks good for skiing, but not sure if it's worth following the creek from the highway or traversing in from Cedar Creek. Possibly it's worth it in the winter if the road hasn't been cleared to Silver Star Creek.
  7. Yep, park at the ski area. The nordic tracks aren't too far from the lower lot.

  9. Trip: Roaring Ridge - North Facing Slopes Date: 1/21/2017 Trip Report: Skiing above tree line on the weekend seemed a bit questionable, so we opted for exploring an area none of us had been to. We heard rumors Roaring Ridge east of Snoqualmie Pass was a fun spot. Route on Roaring Ridge east of Hyak and Mount Catherine The approach starts on the flat road southwest of Keechelus Lake. Eventually the ridgeline and skiing comes into view The ascent involves connecting sections of old logging roads. On ascent we found nice new snow on top of an icy layer. Digging a pit relieved the ice layer was 2-inches thick. Eventually we decided to bag the ascent and ski. After a fun run we climbed up to repeat the best portion of the descent. Clouds cleared enough for good views of Gold Creek and Alaska Mountain After run #2 we skied back to the car. While we didn't summit the ridge crest on this trip we learned the best ascent route for future use Approach Notes: Cross Cold Creek then ascent using roads and travel near the edge of old timber

Judging by nightly marches in a few big citys bitterness isn't going to disappear instantly.
  17. Not good odds for the Cubs, but who knows http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chicago-cubs-world-series-cleveland-indians-game-1-loss-drought-rizzo-bryant-schwarber-lester-102616

  19. I like that the biking section is now in a separate building down the block. That was a good move. No they don't have the same amount of used gear they once did, but they still have decent climbing stuff. Maybe not as refined towards climbers like PMS but still pretty good for climbing gear. I just walked by the North Face store at Northgate Shopping Mall. You can always give them a shot

  21. La Nina was the word a few months ago. Since that time NOAA backtracked to a, "Normal," winter. A recent report on North Pacific ocean temperatures implied there was quite a bit of warm water out there [img:center]https://www.nwfsc.noaa.gov/news/features/food_chain/images/map.jpg[/img] We'll find out in a couple months
  22. You could do a loop of peaks in the Goat Rocks. Not full on glacier climbing, but you get a feel of it. It involves route finding and some scrambling but not rock climbing.

  24. La Nina is on the way. While late summer skiing for this year will probably suck ya never know.
