  1. It's your lover Tom Stoppard's birthday and you haven't said a thing.
  2. I think the punch line is something like j b saying, "Maybe I'm just arguing in my spare time." I remember a bunch of threads where there was a fun arguement going on, and then Goat and j b ruin it. It's kind of like traveling in the desert SW and runing into some place where some asshole named Anasazi went and ruined everything.
  3. The Olympics are the perfect place to take hallucinogenic drugs and stare at funky trees. Other than that the climbing is fairly suck.
  4. I burn biodiesel on a regular basis. I'm not into government subsidies of big agrobusiness, however that's a seperate issue form why I burn it. Let me give you a list Regular diesel is carsinogenic, biodiesel is not Regular diesel emits all kinds of pollutants, biodiesel doesn't (with the exception of NO) Regular diesel adds stored carbon to the atmosphere, biodiesel only adds carbon that the soy plants soaked up(or I should say 75% less stored carbon) I fail to see how biodiesel can only be produced with government subsidies. If there were no subsidies then we could buy cheap soy beans from all over (like you said in your post) and thus the price of biodiesel would be less. Sorry but your logic sucks.
  5. We're watching your every move...hahahaha
  6. When I first saw this thread I thought it said: Giant Sea Creature Battles Chilean Scientists
  7. What about THE NEW TREE CLIMBING FORUM , with weekly editorials by AlpineK? Yeah, fuck Puget I demand THE NEW TREE CLIMBING FORUM
  8. That's what ya call tough love pal.
  9. I've never read any Ayn Rand, so I can't comment on her writing. It seems to me that pure individualism and pure capitalism are one and the same thing. Collectivism would be similar to Socialism. I would argue that society is composed of individuals that still have needs as a group. If all you do is try and improve your own situation you will eventually have a negative impact on others. For example I try and sell work and make money for myself. In order to do this I need to hire people to do the work. I pay them for what they do, and I make money. However if an employee hurts themselves on the job it is my social obligation to have industrial insurance for them, and in fact the state requires me to do that. A pure individualist would say the state should make no such requirement. The downside of collectivism is easy to see by looking at communist countries or REI. Somewhere inbetween the collective good and the individual good is the best place for us all to be.
  10. This whole thing sucks. There's already enough development presure on Smoke Bluffs/Squamish. If you like climbing at Squamish this is some of the worst news you could imagine.
  11. Back to the main subject. It is an undisputed fact that dislike of America in the rest of the world is growing. Why should we care? Well for one thing it's easier to do business with or negotiate with countries that like us. Making everyone happy is both impossible and wrong however forcing the rest of the world to do things our way is equally wrong. The US under Bush has backed out of a bunch of international agreements and started a war that they didn't have widespread consensus over. Now individually there may be merit for what Bush has done, however when you look at the big picture it's easy to see how the rest of the world sees us as dictatorial.
  12. Suckers.
  13. j b, I think you and Mtn Goat should get a room without a computer and consummate your obvious love for each other. Many CC.com folks would rejoice if the 2 of you never posted on political topics again.
  14. It all depends on how comfortable you are on snow. If your hesitant about crossing a slope due to conditions/steepness/runout then an ice axe would be a better choice. If not poles help you balance and thus move faster.
  15. Wrong again you moron. I don't agree with, but read, many of Fairweather's posts, however I've long since given up reading any of the crap you write.
  16. Bla bla bla fucking bla
  17. I would like to be even handed here. Even though I couldn't be bothered to read the whole thread, MtnGoat and j b you are both fucking idiots. I hope you spend eternity sitting in vats of human vomit and or shit.
  18. My favorite guru/philosopher/adviser always tells me when I ask how I should deal with lifes problems,"Figure it out for yourself fuckwad.....and bring me a beer god dang it."
  19. I'm down with that place in Ballard.
  20. I just get tired of the latest personality that's going to help everyone. Sure we all need outside help with problems in our lives from time to time, but turning it into a media/pesonality/hype thing annoys me. I listen to those AM talk radio show when I'm trying to stay awake driving cross-country, but when I'm at home there's no way I would listen to that garbage.
  21. Fuck Dr Phill and fuck all those TV/Radio advice people. There all a bunch of jackasses and you're an idiot to listen to them.
  22. We did the traverse last summer and we never roped up. bring and
  23. Mike Adamson a couple of his friends and I skied the SW chutes on Adams on Saturday. We left Tacoma at about 1 PM and drove down to the south side of the mountain. There were only a couple patches of snow at the end of the road, so we hiked our skis up a mile or so. We camped near timberline ate dinner and watched the sun set. As soon as it got totally light we headed up the dog slog. I got up to the false summit a while after 9 AM and hung out with the masses. Mike showed up pretty soon thereafter, but we ended up napping for a while till the other 2 showed up. One of Mike's friends T was kind of tired, so we had to do a little brow beating to get him to summit. The summit was crouded, but waiting on the false summit allowed the snow up top to get soft. Skiing back to the false summit was alright, which is about as good as I think it ever gets, but the main event started below the false summit. The SW chutes drop off to the west of the main S side route. The slope is pretty dam cool. It stays at a fairly constant 35 degree angle and drops about 3000'. The snow in the chute was smooth and soft but not too slushy. We skied the gully till it opened out and then traversed out high. The hike out was kind of a pain; I'm not sure if we went the best way, but eventually we got back to camp drank a beer and then headed back to the car. All and all a fun trip! I don't ever have to summit Adams with skis again, but I could ski the chutes a few more times.
  24. I'm afraid of you guys... AS IF I'd meet anyone here in real life... Remeber Ted Bundy and Gary Lee Ridgeway??? Ted Bundy was a really smooth nice guy tell he got you alone in his VW bug. We're nasty right from the getgo so therefore we're safe.
  25. That's ok. You must be a genius to upload a bunch of naked pictures of yourself to the internet and think that none of us would find them.
