Nothing wrong with asking for money. On the other hand submitting the funding request to experienced alpine climbers prior to publishing could have added a dose of reality. Nice to see your enthusiasm for climbing Denali, but...
-
Looking through there resumes there's no mention of experience on glaciers. Climbing all the 14ers in Cali doesn't count. It sounds like they have experience bouldering. Chances of finding V4 boulder problems and or feeling in the mood for bouldering on the West Butt are low.
Lichtenberg - North Facing Chute 2/10/2013
AlpineK replied to AlpineK's topic in the *freshiezone*
You did fine Providing humor on the ascent is a good thing. -
Trip: Lichtenberg - North Facing Chute Date: 2/10/2013 Trip Report: A: What do you want to ski? B: I don't know. A: North facing snow should be good around Stevens since it'll be colder. B: OK A: So what do you want to ski? B: Lets figure it out when we get there. A: OK Not quite a direct quote, but does reflect our route selection process. In the end we picked an ascent of Lichtenberg via the eastern ridge. None of us knew the exact ascent line, but heard a Smith Brook spur road worked. After finding a creek crossing debate shifted to left or right side of the ridge. We picked the right side. The ridge line provides great views on a sunny day and gets you away from the crowds on Smith Brook Road early on. Rock Mountain to the Chiwaukum Range. Lichtenberg Summit Ridge Stevens Pass North facing snow was protected from the sun and powdery. We decided to not follow the ridge to the summit but ski a chute Jeff and I made a direct ascent of a couple years previously. The snow up high was fantastic. Lower down while degrading slightly is was still fun. We managed to hit Smith Brook at a good spot for crossing. From there snow was packed on the road and provided an easy game of Frogger. Gear Notes: Take snow sliding equipment. Approach Notes: Use an old spur road off Smith Brook. There are small cliffs on the ridgeline, but you can avoid them on climbers right.

Just trying to speak at the right level given your first post in the thread.

Voluntary.....for now maybe. Please watch the full video [video:youtube]

Probably a waist of time given Boneheads intelect The only time forcibly gun taking comes in to play is when someone with a prior criminal record, history of mental instability, or love of posting such stuff on Facebook(Etc..)starts making public threats of violence. Try taking a walk down the street with a bullhorn and multiple firearms. Then use the bullhorn to threaten violence. Guess what, the cops are going to show up and tell you to drop your weapons. There are gun buyback programs or public programs where folks can turn in weapons. Guess what, they are voluntary (please pick up a dictionary for god sake). Gun control is primarily brought up as a means of Improving background checking prior to purchase of a firearm Limiting clip size Restricting access to some varieties of firearms The last point is tricky but not impossible since there isn't a 100% solid definition of an assault rifle. I'm pretty sure most folks can hunt and defend themselves without use of tanks or machine guns. Please provide a credible reference for this statement. Where has anybody other than wack jobs with similar afflictions to yours called for centralized gun ownership?

Kevbone and others are bizarre. I've lived in a metropolitan area for year and occasionally walk around, "scary," downtown at night. At no time has a lack of firearms made me feel scared. Being aware of surroundings you're in, their history and observant of what's going on now is the best form of defense.
Mt. Shuksan - South Couloir 1/20/2013

Yeppers, skiing rules but ease back into it. Nice line as always. -
Not a splitboarder, but do quiz them about boot selection from time to time. Snowboarrds are old hat. There's been lots of time for development and evolution. Splitboards ain't so old as you know. Last time the subject of boots came up with a splitboarder with miles under the board the response was boots will change radically next year. Not much help now, but something to think about. If you do get a splitboard the bindings have to be compatible with climbing boots. If you can't find compatible bindings then you're back to AT skis and a dose of survival skiing and patience I hear splitboards are great in soft snow, but suck on the uptrack in hard or icy snow due to width underfoot.

Generally, a synopsis and a photo or two in your report is preferred. After that linking to a complete write up is fine. Just posting a link is annoying. At least if I see that I never click the link.

You should probably start by checking out one of the three bibles for the Cascades. [img:center]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41K8XHNR8DL._SL500_AA300_.jpg[/img] It worries me a bit when you use the term, "Glacier hiking." The glaciers in Colorado are different beasts. Coastal snowpack is different too. Lots of cragging and guidebooks. While there is ice climbing (waterfall ice) it isn't as abundant as it is in CO.

A friend and I were skiing in the area last Sunday. We found powder on top of bulletproof ice. We bailed from our original plans.

Over-prescription for sure. Another factor is folks starting a prescription cycle given by a doctor then quitting the cycle based on feeling better not when the prescribed cycle is over.

Jenny McCarthy says it does. She's like a hot blonde scientist, so it must be true

Why are you so anti when it comes to traditional American values as seen on TV [img:center]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/47/Daniel_boone_television_parker_1966.JPG[/img]
