As you probably know, the NF is not the 'true' north face of hood but rather more of a northeastern aspect. That being said, the gully on the climbers right is supposed to be more difficult than the gully on the left. The left gully has its crux section right at the start while the right-hand gully has more difficult sections higher up. If you've got a copy of Oregon High I recommend checking it out for a more detailed description. Shreds now done both gullys and can weigh in with more beta if you want it.

I like mine so much I am thinking of getting some new ones that adjust more easily. Those allen screws are a PITA.

The climbing was challenging. The spindrift made for a spicy lead. Just getting to the base of the actual gully was an exercise in wallowing. 100 yards of waist-deep snow took me almost an hour to cover. As you can tell in the pics above, I skirted to the side of the ice fall to avoid the deluge of spindrift and because the snow looked too soft. As it turned out it was bomber ice. The climbing was sustained and pretty steep in some sections. There is a lot of ice forming to climbers right of the right gully and looked magnificent. If one wanted to go just cragging that would be the place. Shred and I skirted the last ice flow on the rocks because the ice looked brittle and aerated. I found out later it wasn't. Go get it folks. Its a lot of fun. Oh--and from what Iain said, the south side is looking pretty desperate right now.

I have a coated urethane jacket made by mountain hardwear that has a generous hood, cipper front and button fly over the zipper. The buttons help me regulate body temp if its not dumping too bad but if I am moving at all I am gonna get wet no matter what. I picked it up new for 30 skins.
