  1. Nothing like reviving threads that are almost two years old.
  2. With all due respect Zach, your description of Alpenjager is incorrect. We encountered choss the entire route and no where on that pile did we encounter any bulletproof basalt. Getting to the top of the Alpenjager itself is like a trip to the proctologist and only for those with extremely tight sphincters. Prepare to do the walrus on loose rock and piles of mossy dirt for 30 feet of more. Its an adventure though.
  3. or buy it for around $20 new at The Mountain Shop.
  4. And they never increase in value either.
  5. No joke: I ran into a couple guys hiking up Mount St. Helens one summer (around labor day) and they had a bunch of wood strapped to the frame of their packs. They also had a boombox. Their goal was to build a fire and listen to Ozzy on the crater rim.
  6. I bet that approach is longer than 20 minutes now.
  7. BD generally will not sling cams that are of questionnable condition. I know of at least two people who received their cams back with a note telling them they should be replaced.
  8. Material omissions--like forgetting you climb when filling out the form--will void the insurance contract if discovered within two years. If they dont learn of it within those two years they are screwed.
  9. There is one guy who works at US Outdoor who is pretty cool, knowledgable and soft-spoken. Can't recall his name but he's got sort of longish, dark-blonde hair. Anyhow, he special ordered a part from BDEL for me, gave it to me for free and when I bought some leashes for my tools told me to tell the counter folks that I was a member of the Mazamas and I'd get a 10% discount (even though I am not a member). He later apologized for asking if I was a mazama. Also, Shred and I ran into him and a partner aat Crown Point when we climbed the Crown Jewel. I never used to like US Outdoor but after that I'll give them some of my hard-earned bones.
  10. I have an older BDEL shovel with a blade attachment that is pre-drilled for use as a fluke. I have never used it (or any other fluke) as pro.
  11. I laid out the bones for the ABS plates after the milk jug finally wore off (after 4 years of pretty regular use). I realized after I tore open the package that the new Sabretooth crampons have holes drilled through the rear cleats to accomodate the attachmens screws for the ABS plates. Since I had the older model Sabres I had to drill the holes. Several hours, two trips to Home Repo and three broken drill bits later I finished drilling those holes. I'll stick with milk jugs and accessory cord from now on.
  12. KISS has way more entertainment value then Phish. The Fresh Air interview with Gene Simmons is priceless.
  13. I'm impressed with your ability to achieve turgidity whilst rubbing with icebergs. You are indeed, a hardman. "the hardest thing about climbing Everest was getting 2" of dick through 8" of down"
  14. I have one now and love it. It runs on one battery that lasts for over 24 hours. Pretty lightweight too.
  15. Who gives a fuck what you think, Greg? Don't presume to speak for the entire cascadesprayers alliance. Don't like them, don't look at them.
  16. Nice job Tex and Crackman. I got sweaty palms just reading it.
  17. Mattp-- Did you climb all three gendarmes or did you traverse around them?
  18. Most skiers use the worm flows

Husker Du (and Bob Mould's first two solo albums) rawk. Bitchin' news about the pixies!
  20. Yeah, cause Steve carries it around in his pockets. His BAC has to be at a continuous level or he crashes like a diabetic.
  21. Same route in the summer.
  22. Pussy.
  23. I'd recommend taking a spectre or two and some pins next time you go, regardless of how rimed up you may think it is. What looks like rime may often just be sugar over rock. Not that pins will help either. Sounds like a fun day in the hills fellas.
  24. The "love ewe". Its anatomically correct. Not that I know or anything.
