  1. Speaking of which... Self arrsest with crampons on sucks . I once fell in the shucksan gully on the south side with crampons on, I kept my feet off the ground for a few seconds but then the shit really hit the fan when they hit and it was cartwheels the rest of the way for me! I don't reccomend trying this .
  2. You could just follow the trail of people up Baker, Rainier, and Adams .
  3. Got to love that "ping" noise and cracking sound ice makes when crossing a marginally frozen lake, mmmmmm.
  4. I didn't see him at school today (or any of the other VOC people who tried to go across this weekend) so maybe they're all having party in the crevasse they fell in !
  5. The link doesn't seem to work.
  6. I'm going to the Columbia Icefields next week for round 2 on Mt Columbia. If the weather is real shit we were planning on coming out early and going ice climbing. Despite what the above post says, will there be any ice still "in" ( i love that term )?
  7. We started at diamond head at 10:30pm and then I slept on the bench in front of the heater at elfin for a few hours. Weather got worse, we skiied to Opal cone, then retreated. We probably could have gone as one other VOCer was setting track about an hour ahead of us on a solo day trip across. He left a pair of running shoes at the canadian tire in squamish so he could "run" the 16km back to his truck at Elfin parking lot .
  8. Leaving in a few hours for a 1 push skiathon across the garibaldi neve . I wish i got some before i go.
  9. Right on skyclimb

  11. In general, what sees more traffic, Aconcagua or those mexican volcanoes.
  12. Coopah, why don't you set up a toprope, climb on a different rope on lead and take some intentional falls on your cams to build confidance that they will hold.
  13. I'd buy the bigger size and just put an extra sock on if they pack out . It would suck to have cold feet all the time!
  14. good enough for me!
  15. Anybody know how far up hwy 39 (heliotrope ridge) one could drive? I've checked the road conditions web site but it justsays "snow covered" Thanks for any info.
  16. How much did the permit cost for the mountain?
  17. "Most" of the time I don't need to be closer than 300m anyways. Unless I'm on a logging road and looking for a turnoff or marking my tent. 300 meters will get me to a col or basin just fine. My GPS has a barometric altimeter that I use just as much as grid reference, screwing with the signal won't affect that!
  18. Maybe I should start another pole on how many Canadians, Americans will kill during the war with "friendly" fire...
  19. We have a poll at our work when the first bombs start dropping. my dates on the 20th of march. Some of the staff members were VERY moraly opposed to this. The managers got March 25th though!

    funny

I prefer to climb thick alder trees as opposed to conifers. I find I get more bite in the tree. Any body else have any favorite types of tree to climb. I was thinking of getting some of those wood screws with holes so I can lead the tall fir trees without branches until about 15 meters up. Trees are hardy, they can handle the abuse.

    Kamloops?

I'm considering going to school in kamloops next year but don't know if I could do without the coast mountains for 8 months of the year. I don't really know Kamloops all that well and have only driven through it once. I'll be up there this summer to take a look around but was wondering in the meantime if anybody has any, ANY reason why Kamloops could satisfy my recreational needs PLEASE tell me! Is there even any ice to climb in winter or is it to dry? How about rockclimbing, even a 100ft choss pile would be a start. Just gimme something to work with.
  23. You can bring a pillow to and sleep, i'll just shout if I fall . Zombi roof is where it's at, we won't even get wet. I don't know if I have the car that day but I'll bus out if I don't.
