  1. Is it safe to tie 2 ropes together with a double fishermans knot with 2 different diameter ropes? I have a 11mm and a 8.5mm. it will be used for toproping.
  2. UBB23-ML-298861-ML- Sail, i assume you got what you needed out of this thread? If not, you know where to look
  3. I was there Dec 15-17th so they could of blasted after that though.
  4. I was in KHC last week and stayed for a few days. we hitch-hiked in but there would be room to park your car if you asked them where. They were friendly enough when we walked through the construction site. I don't know where Pretty Nuts was but there is still a climb right off the road where the guide book says Pretty Nuts is.
  5. A friend of mine from Norway said they'd use dogs to pull them up slopes so they could yo yo ski. He said 2 dogs could pull you up pretty much anything. I also met someone from Canmore you who would do the same thing on cross country trails. Hmmmm, maybe i should get a dog...
  6. Where can I get get copies of old CAJ? Not to buy just to get info from.
  7. You can do some touring in the backcountry at the top of one of the Burfield Chair. Sun Peaks runs a cat skiing operation back their but you can ski back and poach it. When are you going to be their till?
  8. I did it last year as a 4 day trip from Vancouver in April. 1 day drive and ski to top of athabasca glacier, 1 day to trench, 1 day summit and back to trench, next day ski out and drive home. We had ropes, pickets, and 7 days food. We didn't rope up or place a single picket. The good thing about that route is that you can pretty much move to the trench with good route finding or a gps in really shitty weather since it's so strait forward. However, the trench is guarded by some pretty massive slots on either side.

  10. Dude man, it was happning! We tried to get into Brew hut but didn't even make it to the end of the logging road due to the 1.2 meters of snow the 48hrs before. In the end we had to break trail into Philix anyway. Anti social trips are great most of the time but at new years, other groups can be nice.
  11. Jordop, Funny you should mention Phelix.. I think thats where we might go again this year over new years. last year was pretty great conditions! Sphinx Bay hut to do some climbing if the lake is frozen though.
  12. Does anyone want to go on a climbing road trip starting in Lilloet then head out to Marble Canyon and then head out to the rockies? I can leave on Dec 13th and would like to be back around Dec 20th-22nd. I started ice climbing at the end of last season so it could be a lot of top rope or easy WI 3 so I can lead, unless you can. PM me if your interested.
  13. Knowbody said we newbies shouldn't set up top ropes; just that we should be carefull where and how we set up and climb on top ropes. I'm not a very good ice climber but i'm good enough to know when my partner is unnessesarily beating the shit out of the ice, and i'll let em know to.
  14. #5 is also pretty good.
  15. I saw it last night in Kamloops. I've seen it the past 3 years and this was defanitly the worst. Only 1 or 2 good films and some just drrrraaaagggged on like "The Other Final". The one that stood out was a spoof on XTREME alpine climbing called "Sister Extreme" and talked with Will Gad, Barry Blanchard, and pat Morrow. Very entertaining.
  16. Sun Peaks is opening up this Saterday! Maybe Thursday if it keeps snowing at this rate. 2inch at my doorstep in kamloops!
  17. I've used sleds similar to ferns and they work ok in most cases. The one thing we did that made a big difference was sew one big bag that you can stuff everything into so it doesn't fall out. We also put 2 grommets in the top of that bag and tied it to 2 grommets on the top of the sled.
  18. Tisk, Tisk. Bikes are not allowed on the West Canyon trail.
  19. Climbed first 2 pitches of Icy BC and some other thin ice left of Deeping Wall. Icy BC was thin but climbable 4+ and the other climb was VERY thin as well. Deeping wall has ice about half way down. The lake is frozen and you can now walk across it.
  20. I skiied mounatineering boots for 2 years but finally got a pair of AT boots last year, I really like them but still use the mounatineering boots for long flat traverses. My problems solved though about the skiis; I just checked out Value Village and they have a pair of skiis and bindings for $24CND! Neon green to!
  21. I bought a seasons pass for the first time and was wondering if it's fine to use AT skis for resort skiing. When I bought my first set a few years ago the lady said they're not very good to use for lift skiing. I've heard it from a few others but havn't heard and reasons why. I have Silveretta 500's and Tua Nitrogens. Any thoughts or experiences?
  22. Baffin Island, Antarctica.
  23. I camped out on Friady night on the side of the highway that goes to the Columbia Icefields from lake louise and Saterday in Field. BRRRRRRRRRR!!
  24. My partner and I found some ice in Field this weekend! Some ice filled gully left of all the climbs named after beer. It was fab-u-lus
  25. Supposed to drop to -13C in Banff this weekend! Columbia icefields here I come!
