Rocky Butte: Bring protection
stevetimetravlr replied to Dirtbag Packwork's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
If you had a CO2 BB pistol would you have used it? If so, then that will make a fine addition to your rack next time. -
You have lots of time to heal before southside Beacon opens Kenny, so no hurry. Heck of a fall on trad gear. Next time you'll place that #3 with confidence and memories.....Way to be going for it.

diorite is what you are talking about I believe.

I have ordered Aliens from Mtn Tools on several occasions and always got them straight away, no delays. The probably sell out in the Spring at sometime, so sooner is better then later i would imagine. Although, after looking at the new Metolius offset and standard Mastercams, I think that is what I will be ordering in the future even though I love my Aliens, the Mastercams appear to be much higher quality.

Leavenworth - Snow Creek Wall Conditions
stevetimetravlr replied to yasso1am's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
The only information I have is off the internet which shows they closed it during that time period last year. I assume they may do the same this year if the falcons return to their nest? if you have more detailed information, feel free to share it. -
Leavenworth - Snow Creek Wall Conditions
stevetimetravlr replied to yasso1am's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
I think Snow Creek Wall closes April 1 thru July for raptor nesting, so you got 2 weeks or wait for summer. -
I'm not telling you to jam it, but I myself really enjoy firing in some locker finger or hand jams. Give me a splitter anyday I say!
-
One time I didn't tape my hands to do Blownout, so part way up I started laybacking as it hurt so much. I was so "blownout" by the time I topped out I thought i was going to puke. Laybacking Blwonout=not fun, jamming Blownout=very very nice. Your favorite climb Joseph, Free for All, you jam when you climb it correct? what do you have against jamming? Did someone jam you in a corner as a child, whats up with that? If you don't jam, then we are going to have to start calling you a "Sport Climber".
-
thats wierd. How do you climb it without the crack? Ive never noticed an abundance of face holds thru that section and its a great little splitter that eats gear.
-
I don't know, climbing on scary flakes is not MY favorite thing and clipping that bolt way off to the side before you get to the flakes is awkward. I like the second part of the second pitch where as soon as you get a jam in the crack above the bhole you're golden because those are some sweet jams up thru there. and then its time to break out the stoppers...
-
Theres nothing wrong with the first pitch of Young Warriors, its that second scabby pitch I personally don't like but the upper pitches more then make up for it. I think Windsurfer, Dods, Dastardly linkup is the best line on Beacon that I can think of.

2010 Beacon Rock Peregrine Monitoring Journal
stevetimetravlr replied to JosephH's topic in Columbia River Gorge
Maybe we need a trad/sport climbing area on the parking lot side above the water fountain. It has super looking rock with lots of room. That wouldn't disturb the peregrines but you might have to move the water fountain. -

stevetimetravlr replied to stevetimetravlr's topic in Climber's Board
Thanks guys, I am on it! -
Its a 4 hour drive for me to Index. I know its raining there today and tomorrow on and off, but forecast is for it drying off after that and I'm wondering if anyone has been climbing at the upper Town Wall this season?

Right on cue, its another ignorant ahole. What have you done to help the Tibetans? Put a "Free Tibet" sticker on your bumper? Might want to slap it on your mouth dude. I am involved in directly helping the Tibetans. I go there, I buy their handicrafts, jewelry, furniture, and handmade articles and pay them cash. I do this in bulk and ship it back and sell it. I get grief from the Chinese, yes, but they can't stop me from spending my money. Many people, yourself obviously included, don't realize that half of Tibet is not in the Tibet province. Qinghai province is the "other" half of Tibet. Many huge monasteries, the birthplace of the Dali Lama, the high Tibetan desert, and half the Tibetans live there as it is formerly part of Tibet province. There is not many problems from the Tibetans who live there, so as a result there are not many restrictions or problems for the Tibet people. The Chinese have come in and done minor developement and buildings and businesses but not much. I'm curious, how many native cultures and the like have we preseved here in the US? When one of the huge Yellow hat Monasteries was severely devastated by a earthquake a few years back, the Chinese came in and put millions into saving and restoring it. I am not pro Chinese but neither do I have my head stuck somewhere. Realistically the Chinese "giving back" Tibet has about the same odds of the US giving back Hawaii and Alaska to the indigenous people, so why don't we engage in some meaningful dialogue with the Chinese regarding cultural preservation instead of lambasting them for enforcing illegal border crossing and pissing them off. Do something positive to help the Tibetans? Im sorry, but the Dali Lama is not helping his people much by living the life of a fat cat and traveling the lecture circuit, but instead has had quite the opposite effect. here is just one example of this.. http://wisdombuddhadorjeshugden.blogspot.com/2008/09/very-hard-for-us.html
