  1. No, didn't spend the night. Just broke the ledge down and rapped in the dark. Will have to get on Bears next summer, ouch that hurts to say that. Less then 3 weeks left of the season. I might have to take your advice and get on Steppenwulf Ivan. Is it 1 pitch or 2 off of Big Ledge? Anchors good?
  2. Plaid nears the sketchy section. That Bears in Heat crack to the left looks stellar, but looks like down low it would be tough to protect ckean. Anyone done it, freed it?
  3. The ledge did not like the winds. It was like riding a bucking bronco at times but it made the belay stint much more relaxing and chill. I even had my foam pad and sleeping bag in the haul bag in case I had to warm up but never came to that. Those heat packets for the hands did the trick. The only REAL excitement was in the darkness when Plaid stripped a few pieces and yanked me and the ledge out of the Dutchman corner and into the Physic corner. I couldn't figure out where I was until I got my headlamp on and found I was out of the ledge just hanging there. tons of fun.
  4. All along the Watchtower "There must be some kind of way out of here" Said the joker to the thief "There's too much confusion I can't get no relief Businessmen they drink my wine Plowmen dig my earth None of them along the line Know what any of it is worth" "No reason to get excited" The thief, he kindly spoke "There are many here among us Who feel that life is but a joke But you and I, we've been through that And this is not our fate So let us not talk falsely now The hour is getting late" All along the watchtower Princes kept the view While all the women came and went Barefoot servants, too But outside in the cold distance A wildcat did growl Two riders were approaching And the wind began to howl by Bob Dylan
  5. Somewhere behind my head in that photo is where that piece of rock fell off when i got on the semi detached block. That was wierd when that fell off above my head and I wasn't even touching it, just hanging on the block.
  6. Ivan gettin it done today. Ben Jim showed up Kyle Good day!
  7. A guy just posted over at Supertopo that Widows Tears is in full and fat fue to record rainfall and now cold temps, its as frozen as hes seen it. Just in case anyone had some free time and the inclination...
  8. I just read a article written by Dane under the link "Blog" at the top of the page. It was about umblicials on ice tools and really informative. Thank you Dane, super info.
  9. heres a few photos from the oh so short freeze last year
  10. Don't forget about the hidden and elusive Tolketie Wall.
  11. #6 or #8? Griswold or Wagner?
  12. I don't get why you have to be so doubtfull of my post. Just because you don't know every climber in the Portland area does not mean I am lying about my climbs. Or is it that I have to earn my rank on this site? No wonder it took me seven years to finally register as alot of the people on this site come of off as total ass holes. Cheers Todd Thanks for the praise Dave and Bill. i was always a fan of thomas in the new testament - come out to beacon saturday and have a beer w/ us! Take Ivan up on the beer offer! classic postclimb brewsky session hunkered down against the wind regaled with tales of wild walls and faraway splitters. No ones really a ahole on this site(except me), its all just in fun jousting.
  13. Mill bastards!
  14. It looks like you are climbing at the abandoned gravel pit. Plaid, I can see now why you are attracted to 30 foot splitters.
  15. Thats what she said....
  16. Winter ascents get my respect.
  17. Its pretty darn warm up on the mountain, at least compared to here in Hood River. Here is the link I use, it is spot on and very handy in figuring out whats going on up there for a blow by blow hour by hour update. http://www.nwac.us/weatherdata/mthoodmeadows/now/
  18. Classic! I feel your pain, laughing my ass off with you guys, that descent was such a bitch. You could have taken the straight shot up Temple Canyon into Mesa and Earle Lakes, or did you just want to visit the Enchants in vinter?
  19. Anyone have any more specific directions? Take the road up hill across from Beacon to a trailhead, is it called Hamilton Mtn trail and/or obvious? Is the notch you hike into the one on the left in the photo? Can you see the different seeps from the notch?
  20. Na, I was just yanking his chain.
  21. Inversion in the Gorge so should keep the ice coming on for a few more days if it holds. Currently 34 degrees at 6600 feet on Hood, 30 degrees at 5200 feet, Hood River 27 degrees. Also no wind on the mountain, so is should be crusting over a bit. Bad for skiing, good for climbing.
  22. nawwww, to much poison oak for me. and the climbing is to short to be worth the effort for the hike and the oak and the ticks and the snakes and the wind and the..
