Dave, I don't think you need any help getting up the corner, what you talking bout Holmes! So maybe what Joseph is trying to say in his typically incoherent fashion is that a designated top of the crag trail and multiple sling anchors with rap rings and such need to be installed at the FARSIDE, so that everyone can enjoy a good top rope without endangering the lower trail hikers and top rope belayers? I think Tim Olsen should have to do it.

That was kind of my take on it. Haven't heard the near death story though, so my thought is maybe somebody came rapping thru the trees and almost beaned Joseph with a pine cone. He hates pine cones.

Holy mother of George Walker, those spikes look like they are old enough to be made by Chouinard. and I agree with you Ivan, lots of scary enormous blocks on that side that don't look like they will be in residence long, kind of freaks me out overthere. Plus all the poison oak is a real plus.

actually his name was Quinn Coning. He quit climbing after taking a seriously huge fall ice climbing and walking away from it, I can't remember what peak, does anyone else remember? Sold all his gear and became a white supremist as I recall, back in 1978 or so. Quite a character.

Kick rocks as you are hiking and use a hiking stick that you pound on the ground as you go. It lets them know you are coming, and then they aren't surprised when you step over the top of them. Ive walked over and past many a rattler in this way, its when you surprise them that they will surprise you!

Ultima Thule Wall is just left of the Orange Wall as you are facing it. Kind of hidden in profile, it has some stellar looking cracks and overhangs when you get close to it. In this photo, it is the wall that casts the shadow in the photo on the left. I'm sure you guys saw it, but with the Orange Wall right there, its hard to go single pitch cragging I'm sure!

Yes, Ahwahnee is at the top of pitch 4. We did 3 pitches on Day 2, and could have made it 4 as Pitch 8 is only 50 feet of slab but I pulled up short and called it a day a the top of pitch 7. We just chilled on Ahwahnee for a good part of the morning and then took it pretty easy on the climbing. I was glad we had the portaledge as its nice to be able to just set up and hang out where you end up. Fun times for sure, I am chomping to get back down there!

Great TR! but seems no one climbs on the incredible looking Ultima Thule Wall, not sure why? Looks like some really wild climbs right next to the Orange Wall. Its my target for my next trip to Banks when I have a boat.

ummmm Joseph, are you quite sure Kevbone CAN'T climb your route(s). AS I WAS bouldering with him not that long ago, and the guy was FRICKING FULL ON CRUSHING IT.
