Back in about 1980 I was going to school in E-burg at Central, and Fred Stanley was a prof there, and also headed up the climbing club. The climbing club took a trip to Leavenworth and we climbed at the Pinnacles due to weather. Fred Stanley sent Washboard in vibram soled mountain boots, amazing. What a class act that guy is as well as a strong climber. He's left his mark on many first ascents in Washington, I wonder how hes doing?

Still great conditions right now if you catch it between snow storms. Get a early start so you are on it in the sun!

We did Voyage of the Cowdog based on Lucky Larry's recommendation, thanks Larry! Chossy first 2 pitches until the incredible soaring final pitch. Upon reaching the anchor at the top of the Picnic Lunch Wall, we found one of the new Metolius rap anchors is loose and shakey. Now only does the hanger move, the entire head of the bolt moves around, looks ready to go. There is another older anchor about 10 feet above this one that you can back up off of, but this bolt defintely needs attention if anyone is up for it. Also there is another loose anchor bolt on Wherever I May Roam at the top of the 3rd pitch at the anchors we were told.

Don't get discouraged by a little rough weather on Adams you guys. I live near the mtn and have climbed it in all conditions, and you can climb it in just about any weather as long as you are prepared. Be ready for possible artic cold once you hit the false summit, which can be chilling if you have come thru the rain. Two things can slow you down, the visibility and the wind. The wind can make reaching the summit impossible once it goes over 100 mph up top, but you will know at the false summit what it is doing up there and decide then. With possible bad visibility come prepared with wands, bright clothing, and those GPS thingamajugies, I've never used one, but they would be handy in a fog bank I'm sure. Adverse weather actually makes climbing Adams more interesting and fun then the casual stroll it normally is. Its mountaineering, go for it. You can always turn around and walk down with its easy straightforward descent. Seriously I'd be more worried about being able to drive all the way to the trailhead then whether you can get up the mountain or not, as driving up the road in mud or snow can be more challenging then the climb!

Climbing it this time of year, you might want to bring wands or compass to get you to the summit and back if its in the clouds, from the false summit.

new to NW: how many days does it take rock to dry?
stevetimetravlr replied to shad's topic in Oregon Cascades
Some routes at Ozone you can do right away, but a day of no rain in general is best. Frenches stays a little wetter it seems, probably because the routes are shady in the trees and not much wind. -
Really impressive! Wow!!!

Bill, it appears what you are thinking is not in line with government policy, so I regret to inform you that............... BOOM!

As part of the National Parks, it will then be eligible for mining when they ramrod another stimulus bill thru like this one.. http://www.npca.org/media_center/press_releases/2005/page-27601016.html

That is a great much needed improvement. Kudos to the folks that made it happen.

It makes it pretty casual if you fix the first 3 pitches. One 60m rope fixes from the top of 3 back down to the top of 1. and then one more 60m to the ground.

You WILL run into the Rangers up there on a regular basis, so heartily recommend a permit. If you get caught without a permit, they will escort you all the way to your car, and issue you a healthy citation. A associate of mine saw the ranger coming so he ditched and left his partner to face the music. He was served at his house by the Sheriff a day later. Just get a permit, as the system really is for the preservation of the Enchantments. or wait until the permit system expires in the Fall.

Anyone ever climbed the splitter lines there? The Boving Route crack? Looks like some really great stuff when we hiked up there. We were to tired from 2 days at Royal Columns to try anything hard but the place looks awesome!
