What kind of drugs is Sly on? or is that a skin suit?
-
So, RD your running not cycling? or taking a break from the bike? Registered rider or poacher?
-
Tongue and cheek about size. Glad you mentioned about BR being higher as it peaked my curiousity on alot of the rock outcroppings in the Enchantments. I did ask a local Leavenworth geologist/climber if he knew. He said he thought that the Balance Rock was registered at a slightly higher elevation but couldn't say how much higher. He will check it out and get back to me.

Thanks for all the PMs and emails to climb! Hopefully I will have an opportunity to climb or ski with you in the future. There are 4 of us total. Two wanted to do the West Ridge but I think we will all end up on the North Ridge. We are leaving at 4a.m. to beat the bugs and heat of the day. How is the rappel to the col between the Balance Rock and Sherpa?
-
Jens, size does matter!? I am hoping to do the balance rock as well as Sherpa if weather and time cooperate.

Looking for a partner for a one day ascent of Sherpa Peak - probably the West Ridge. On Sunday July 27th. PM me if interested!

Wow - I remember begging my mother to buy some of those for our lunches!

As a former MSR employee it looks like the blue ice axe is a Thunderbird (may say on the axe)or as mentioned a later model Sumner. The adze and metal, not wood shaft, made these innovative. Larry P. sold the original Thunderbird for a whopping $11 or something close. They came in orange and that color of blue. The black axe is an Eagle by the looks of the head. Ice screws could be MSR or SMC screws - any markings?

His orthopedist will be able to assess things more accurately after the surgery and along with the physical therapists will get him on a good recovery time line. Hope he will be out skiing by next spring, especially if we have another winter like this past one!

Sobo hit the nail on the head! A friend of mine had always come down with at least 2-3 horrendous sinus infections/head colds, that lasted about a month, every year. Seemed the infections were harder to shake - he is otherwise very healthy. Finally went to a specialist, not sure what kind, and had surgery on his septum as he had his nose broken bike racing and it never healed correctly. Now, about 6 years later, he hasn't had a sinus problem.

Many factors could be at play here: amount of damage, amount of scar tissue, etc. Until the doc gets in there to see he or she is being cautious but that being said rehab for most patients takes about 6-8 months. I have seen a few patients who return to quickly to sports that may over stress not completely rehabed knees and have further problems down the road. Everyone heals and rehabs at a different pace but with a Physical Therapist who understands your husbands goals and strength/flexability needs he should be good to go for winter 09/10! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

It is 18.5 miles. Car to car a group of us gals did it in 7 hours taking two breaks. I have done it quicker but depends on whether you would like to nap in the sun or not! Do you need a car shuttle? Friends and myself are doing Colchuck Lake on Saturday. PM me if you would like! Teresa

Oh, to be reminded of the days of the Old Swallow's Nest in Seattle. Loved the 3+ years I worked there!

Best tasting recovery drink?

Heed and Perpetuem work great! I am not a big gel fan but the Hammer gel goes down easier than the rest. For shorter outings I use NUUN or Heed with a few shot blocks. Recoverite seems to really help with muscle recovery and doesn't taste like old socks. -
Do you mean 7/17-7/21?

So..........not Stone Nudes calendar with men? or is it mostly women who are on the cutting edge and climbing nude?
-
Rico, Awesome to know your enjoying your time there. I have so many stories of the generosity of folks but there were one or two unpleasant encounters as well. Just like living in any coutry - good and bad. Teaching at two universities from early '86-'88 I had my share of tear gas and riots. Great climbing!

Telemarker, Warts! Oh, my! Are you going to try the castor oil? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Seriously though, which toes are the calluses on? and where on the toes?

My experience is from 20 years ago but for what it is worth: I really liked the people, though didn't really enjoy being with 10 million others in Seoul. Not great in the winter with the coal smog and more congested than when I was there. Culture there has changed a bit since I was there but women are expected to tow their sociatal obligations. A rich hertiage and some incredible areas to travel to. I taught invitially for the gov't, prior to the Olympics, then taught at Seoul City University and Inchon University. There is some incredible ice climbing in the winter and wonderful rock climbing. It is humid in July - August and butt cold often in the winter (hence the ice climbing). It wasn't all rosey and just like any big city/foreign country comes with social weirdness and some interesting situations.

Hi Zonk, Tom was a great guy and tough to keep up with on skis! It is a sad day. Lucca flew to Page, AZ today. Lucca and Tom's families are in our thoughts!
