I have a Garmin explorist 500 or something. I hardly use it. One, the battery life sucks! I haven't yet purchased the software, but have read terrible reviews about it and its upwards of $100. My dad originally bought it for me, so thats why I have it. I'd be curious to hear what you get and how you like it.

Black forest has some mossey and tree-ish top outs.

If you look in the conditions thread I went to all of these climbs on new years day. All the stuff on road 19 was not in, and union falls looked nothing like it did in that picture. Only climbable ice as about 2-3 wide on right side of the falls.

Yo yo yo! Any conditions update. Today Justin ( summerprophet ) and I went up to Chinook Pass. We didn't see anything on Forest Road 19. Various pictures: Then we continued on to Union creek falls. Right side may go, ice was full of air and top looked sketchy, pretty wet. But hey, someone with more balls than us can go get it! The view up: Justin Anyone want to go somewhere tomorrow?

Update for day #2: Umptanum is in for sure. The falls itself is only frozen on each side, but the drip opposite is frozen nice and so is the bowl behind the frozen drip. Lots of fun ice for screwing around. Oh, the gully by the falls is also filled with ice and another 2 minutes down the trail is more ice. Any suggestions for tomorrow?

Aren't those the same day? I'd rather go to strobach or leavenworth than vantage if we went climbing. Let me know which day you meant.

Well I had all day to play and no partner, so I went to vantage to check the conditions. Fugs from afar: Up close: I ice bouldered on that section for a little bit. Lots of running water and the was kind of soft. There was also some falling rock and ice. Running gear death wall, was COMPLETELY Dry! For contrast, this was the same falls one year ago to the date: Finally, Frechmen Coulee are starting to form, along with the drips on either side. Hopefully in another couple days to week these will be solid. I plan to be exploring more tomorrow.

Funny...those were all on my list of things to do... I went to Vantage today and played with the ice there. But I still got tomorrow and monday and tuesday and wednesday free. Sobo, you want to explore some areas or what? Since you seem to know all the locations.

My usual partners are gone and I want to climb ice. I'm in ellensburg and have all the necessary gear. Heck , Im even down just to go searching for ice.

Did you check out running gear death falls? I would assume its dry as well though..
