I tend to agree that practice falls are useless. What do you really gain out of them? Experience determining good pro vs. junk pro, and being aware of your surroundings (including your rope) is much more important. If you want to push the grades, the falls are going to happen anyway. Screw the gym - get out on real rock. I feel sorry for the guy's friends and family.

You also could probably tell if you have an infection by taking your temperature. Monitor it for a day or two. Anything that is swollen is going to be a little hot, depends on the injury and the person.

dude you must have good 'car'ma or sumpin, ive never had an easy time finding a camp spot in the canyon in good weather - and been shut out a couple times. BCrk would be great but last I heard, with some grounds now closed, I can only imagine it getting worse. Thanks for the suggestions though for sure!! To be clear, I'm not talking about BrCreek campground, I'm talking about the little turnoff a few hundred feet up mountaineer creek rd that goes into the little clearing where you can just throw yr bag on the ground and sleep for free.... I've never seen it empty, but I've never seen it full, either. I doubt that the tourons will be crashing it either, since there's not so much as a picnic table.... Be prepared for people partying in this area. Last time I was there it looked like a high school kegger was going on or something. But hey, 18 is legal right. :kisss:

I think I'm going to check out the crack climbing clinic. If it blows, I'll just go climb cracks instead - it's free, so no loss.

Well, as it seems to be the typical case, it looks like I'm looking for someone to climb with. If anyone wants to get out for a good solid half-day on Friday to either Index or exits, let me know. I'll leave work around noon. Also, I'd love to get out on Saturday too. It would suck to let good weather go to waste!

Per the guidebook you can hike up to this area. I'm pretty sure I was at the K cliff, but when I went up the gully that I think was in between the K cliff and the Lip it looked sketchy. I'm not sure if this is because it's early in the season and the approach isn't semi-cleared, or I was in the wrong place. We didn't want to get into the wrong area and send down rocks. Can anyone offer some directions? Maybe getting there is easier via GNS.
