AR, Here's where I went last summer/fall/winter - when I quit working for the man: Lover's Leap - September Yosemite - September (I'd go later or to Tuolomne if it's hot) Red Rocks - October/ November Index - Whenever I was home (and couldn't get across the border) Leavenworth - Whenever I was home Squamish - August/ September Joshua Tree - First couple weeks of December Also, it's easier if you are flexible on when/where you go. Basically, follow the temps and weather, and you'll be happier. Also, after being to these other "western" spots, I still think WA granite kicks ass. For how you describe your skills, the routes and rock around home are just as good as anywhere else you'd go.

I know both places will have their drips, but after this week's dry trend (and the sunny forecast ), does anyone have knowledge of climbable conditions at either place? Thanks!

Agreed. Nice TR. Pope's Crack was one of my favorite climbs in J-tree.

The Marmot Helium from a few years ago is awesome. It has 900 fill down, but I think the newer versions have less quality down.

Hey Mark, Red Rocks kicks ass. Highly recommend it. We'll probably pass each other on the hiway if you end up going to J-tree. I'll be down there until the 17th - then I gotta be back home. Also, Red Rocks is not too far of a drive from J-tree. Have fun!

What type(s) of climbing do you like to do?

I was able to get through in Late Sept. with license and Birth cert. I think you need a passport starting in June '09. Actually I got through, but my buddy couldn't (long story, but it made me hate crossing the border/ and those cocksucker agents even more).

Outerspace is not GF material. Take her to X38 so there's no crowding on coolish routes.

Word on Red Rocks. I'm headed there next week,most of the routes we have picked out to do are about 8-10 pitches of pure trad. However, you can't go wrong with J-tree (unless the weather craps out).
