    Housing Market!

Well, my situation could be worse. I mean, at least I can afford the house, and have a (small) amount of equity. But, not much equity -- I'm already bringing a check to the closing table if I sell at my current price. At least I got a good fixed rate on my loan, so theoretically I can just suck it up and stay put for a while. My agent talked me into moving back in, but still keeping it on the market. I guess it doesn't hurt, and at least it will encourage me to keep it clean. Anyone want to buy a house in Snohomish? Close to Index!

Dru must have got tired of posting under his Minx avatar.
  7. OK, stupid question? I'm trying to decide on whether I should pursue an opportunity to work and live in Kathmandu. Obviously, this would be a pretty cool experience, for me and my kids. Living logistics aside, what's the climbing like? I mean, duh, right? But, if I'm working, I'm not going to be able to take 2 weeks off to trek out to wherever and spend another week or two climbing and aclimating. So, what's the alpine climbing like there? Is there anything nearby I could spend weekends doing? Local cragging? Or, will I end up moving there and not getting a chance to climb ever, because everything is SO BIG and remote that I don't have anything to do on weekends? Advice?

    Housing Market!

So, I've been trying to sell my house in Snohomish for a few months. I've lowered the price like $20,000, and still the damn thing won't sell. My neighbors just took a $40,000 loss selling their house. I think depreciation in Snohomish county was like 6% this year. It's getting to the point that if I sell it I'll have to go to closing with a check to make up the difference! I'm taking the damn thing off the market and moving back in. Guess I'll see if things are better in a year. (My agent says not to hold my breath.) Why did I buy a house again??? Oh well, at least my roses are blooming.

  15. A SPOT is not a PLB. A SPOT uses a GPS to determine your location, which means you have to be in a location where you can get a GPS lock to begin with, and SPOT uses the private globalstar network for communications (the globalstar network has it's OWN problems which is another issue). The 911 services are handled by GEOSalliance, a private concern in Texas. I was involved in a rescue mission in which the subject had a SPOT device and GEOS alliance spent several hours just trying to figure out who to contact to initiate a rescue -- and they gave incorrect coordinates right off the bat. I never spoke with them directly, but the Sheriff's deputies had lots of complaints about the call center which handled the 911 response for SPOT. That's the only experience I've had with them, and it was poor. (That said, at least they DID finally contact us....) A PLB (much more expensive) uses a 406 MHz digital transmitter, which is the exact same technology used by aircraft beacons. It is much more reliable, uses government based satellites, and will work where a SPOT will not. It also doesn't cost $100 per year to operate (service is free) and is monitored by a government agency (I think NOAA monitors the signals in the US).

    Mark David Chapman

Yes. From behind bars to a padded room. No. He should be taken out and shot four times in the chest. Even better. Technically, he has serviced his time. He was sentenced to 20-life. He could be released. If so….someone needs to put 4 bullets in his neck and then stand over him as he bleeds to death. Just so he knows what that is like. MFer took one of our great song writers in history from us. I wonder what Lennon would have said about this kind of sentiment, Kev?

speaking of coming out of the closet, I notice that accusing someone of being gay seems to be pretty much the only arrow in your quiver. The lady doth protest too much, methinks. Anything you want to tell us? It's OK. You were born that way. You shouldn't be ashamed.
  21. That's how Bush got his second term.
  22. Hmm. That's not how american politics works. We don't compare qualifications and merits to see who is the better choice. That would be WAY too optimistic. Instead, we analyze who has the most dirt, and the most disqialifications, and vote for the other guy. "Your guy sucks more than my guy!"
  23. This thread isn't about obama, it's about McCain "My candidate is just as bad as yours," is that what you're saying?
  24. Are they gore-tex lined? I recommend sno-seal, the stuff is great -- conditions and waterproofs. But, if you have a goretex boot, I don't know how sno-seal effects the breathability of the leater. If your leather doesn't breath, then i suppose there's no point in having a gore-tex membrane underneath? That's why I avoid gore-tex boots, but that's another story. I think Nikwax has a gore-tex safe leather conditioner
  25. I'm not talking. It's called writing. It's a non-verbal form of communication. Similar, yet different. Don't worry, you'll figure it out one day. Hang in there.
