  1. Using an ATC or other non-auto-locking device doesn't mean it's the only thing one knows how to use. Do you really think people who drive manuals have no idea how to drive an automatic? The reverse may be true, both with cars and with belay devices. Not to mention gri-gri's are not 100% failsafe - even in the manual Petzl tells you to pay attention and keep your hands on the rope. It's surprising how many people ignore that. I think someone posted a link about common mistakes in using a gri-gri but I can't find it. Not a big deal, just my 2 cents.
  2. Hmm, so I shouldn't tell you what your mother and I did last night, eh?
  3. How dare anonymous_coward post this here in the hopes of reminding the people who possibly left their trash up there. I mean, someone overly sensitive could misinterpret it and think they're being wrongly accused and lectured. That would be horrible. And how much of a chance does he think he has in getting the appropriate people's attention? Oh, wait...

  6. I don't know about a cast but you can get crutches and painkillers... Got into an car accident with an ex a while back (a mutual friend was driving btw) and she smacked her leg on the dash. Seemed like the beginning of a bad bruise. We didn't think much of it until the WSDOT guy got there and said while he wasn't a doctor he'd seen a lot of similar injuries that were actually hairline fractures. Apparantly one guy just kept walking on his leg like it was just a bruise until it snapped under his body weight one day. I'll tell you that got our asses to Harborview quick and sure enough - hairline fracture. They gave her enough vicodin to last her and me for 3 weeks. I mean her for 3 weeks. Yes....

    The strategy is?

Interesting idea. I don't mean to make the Israeli's out to be as evil as but the evidence and history made me question their explanation. Maybe it's not that they're intentionally targeting civilians but that they just don't care enough to really avoid civilians either. One thought that I'll just throw out is political pressure. By looking like they "try" to avoid targeting civilians they can play the collateral damage line. If they were outright blatant about it the other countries would pressure the US to stop backing Israel. But it's just food for thought. At any rate I'm just glad I'm not over in the middle of this ish-storm. I'll second that. Good points all around - definitely has made look at the situation from a few different perspectives.

I was waiting for someone to bring this up before me, but.... Can't defend themselves without killing innocent civilians? Have you ever heard of the Qana shelling (aka Qana massacre)? 106 Lebanese civilians (or should I say "civilians"?) killed. Targeted by Israeli artillery - "accidentally" I'm sure. Although both the UN and Amnesty International investigations found numerous holes in the Israeli explanation. Like how they were monitoring where civilians were with two helicopters and an unmanned drone - which Israel initially denied having in the area.

  16. Oh yeah? Well I just donated 100% of my personal earnings to The Person Fund which provides food, clothes, shelter, AND beer to, well, me. Now some may say that funds could be used more effectively to benefit more people, but consider the fact that my wonderful presence already overcompensates these people. By giving to me you give to all of them. Consider your fund topped.
  17. I didn't recognize her pic in the PI but after seeing a higher quality one elsewhere I realized I had goofed around with her at SG several times. Sad...
