Perhaps more important than having a rope and harnes is knowing how to use them....do you have the skill and confidence to arrest a fall if someone on your rope falls? Do you know how to set up a pulley system if someone on your rope falls into a crevasse?

Taking the kids up for an overnight camp at Cheakamus Lake. I am wondering what to expect for road conditions up to the trailhead. Last time I was up there (years ago), the road was very rough (rutted and potholed), but passable with a 2wd vehicle if you took it slow. Anyone know what the road conditions are now?

I am taking the family (wife + 4 year old) on a 10 day camping trip into Oregon. We leave Thurs Jul 28. So far the only thing we have booked is 3 nights at Crater Lake. Thinking is we would do activities around there until we get bored and then meander up the coast and check out Seal Cave, Sand Dunes, Cannon Beach on our way back home to Vancouver BC. I am looking for suggestions on things to do/see and places to stay. What are the must sees and must dos? How about places you might not find in the tourist literature? We will have hiking and rock gear with us. Our rainy weather plan is to drive up to Smith. We wil lprobably spend some time in Portland on the way down and do some shopping. Recommendations for camping? Was it a mistake to only book one spot for 3 days? Thanks for advices.

I am looking for advice on getting a trailer bike for my 4 years old. What have you all used and liked? I am currently looking at the Trek Mountain Train: http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/collections/kids/models# I am looking for something light weight as we intend to do some touring with it. I have also looked at models from Canadian Tire and Mountain Equipment Co-op, but they have a number of negative reviews for being wobbly and unstable. Thanks

We are in Vancouver, Canada, so if you have any desire to come up to Squamish you have a partner and a place to crash in Vancouver. We'd be up for a trip to Leavenworth too. How old is your daughter?
