  1. BC parks has now lifted the Falcon closures on the Chief for the 2011 season. David J Jones co-director of SAS
  2. Hi everyone, The falcon closures for spring/summer 2011 can now be found here: http://squamishaccess.ca/?p=724 Thanks to Jeremy Frimer for producing the nice visual. Thanks as well to BC parks (in particular Dave Zevick) for working on IDing the nesting site with a wildlife biologist and engaging SAS, CASBC and others to protect the falcons while minimizing the impact on climbers. The level of cooperation and communication has been excellent. And lastly thanks for patience from all of you climbers for this announcement. David J Jones Co-director of SAS
  3. Hi everyone, SAS is happy to announce we have completed phase 2 of our re-bolting initiative. Details can be found here: http://squamishaccess.ca/?p=718 and here: http://squamishaccess.ca/?p=699 and include climbs in Chek, Murrin (such as The Shaman), North Wall (AK Highway) and Grand Wall (including Cruel Shoes). We would like to gratefully acknowledge the efforts of Squamish Rock Guides and Westcoast Mountain Guides for their contribution to this work. David J. Jones Co-Director of SAS
  4. Hi Everyone, A mid-winter update of Phase 2 of SAS's re-bolting initiative can be found here: http://squamishaccess.ca/?m=201012 which included re-bolting of climbs at Pet Wall and the Shaman in Murrin, North Wall of the Grand and Chek. We have also installed Permadraws on the Circus in Chek with stainless steel biners. Phase 3 will be completed in early spring with more re-bolting and further replacement of fixed draws on select climbs in Chek with Permadraws. As before, if you have any positive or negative comments or if you have any questions/ concerns please contact me djones squamishaccess.ca or make a comment on our website. Suggestions for other climbs to be considered for re-bolting can be made in a similar manner. A number of people of asked how they can help. The single biggest helpful action would be to join SAS. Details can be found on our website. In the meantime enjoy the ice and snow! David J. Jones SAS co-director
  5. Hi Everyone, This is (yet another) David Jones. I'm a co-director of SAS and we've recently completed an initial effort to re-bolt a selection of climbs around Squamish. A report on this work can be found on our website: http://squamishaccess.ca/?p=687 The reaction from the community has been overwhelming positive and we are moving on to Phase 2 on the initiative. Phase 2 will continue by re-bolting climbs in Chek, Rouge Gallery, Murrin, Grand Wall, and the North Wall. In this follow up effort we will likely include replacement of nearly all suspect fixed draws at Chek. If you have any positive or negative comments or if you have any questions/ concerns please contact me djones squamishaccess.ca or make a comment on our website. Suggestions for other climbs to be considered for re-bolting can be made in a similar manner or here: http://squamishaccess.ca/?page_id=13 If this sounds like a good idea, considering joining SAS to support these and other efforts we are working on for all climbers. And if you’d like to hear more about this and other SAS initiatives in more detail, come to our AGM in early October (date TBA). Cheers, David Jones SAS co-director
