  1. Probably just a Urban (rural) legend, just like: As Jim Perrin points out (The Villian, 2005), there was no World Cup in 1972. And Pershing and Ike had to bail out the Brits anyway
  2. After reading this book, it would appear that Don Sheldon did act poorly. But read "Wager with the wind", Don Sheldon's biography, and a whole slew of other writings about Don Sheldon. The assertions in Tabors book do not square with the courageous acts Don Sheldon did numerous times to save others. I believe Tabor is wrong. No it's not. I found numerous errors in research. I have also read both Joe Wilcox's and Howard Snyder's books, and am finally beginning to disagree with some of the assessments of Joe Wilcox, which were probably ingrained into me by the writings of Chris Jones, Howard Snyder, and Brad Washburn. Nevertheless, it was a poorly ran expedition. Wayne Merry's frustrations with the NPS and the rescue were the most interesting part of this latest book
  3. Bigtree, I know you're a Bigtree and all, but maybe you're Big Dumb tree. Your quote is from a bunch of logging flacks. They wanna kill all big trees. You too. We'd miss you. The juxtaposition of atmospheric recovery and logging is interesting. Help the defeat Global Warming! Log the shit outa the place!
  4. Good job Bigtree. And thank you for your continued holding of large volumes of carbon. Someday you'll be a fine beam, and hopefully a little hog fuel too.
  5. This doesn't say anything about carbon sequestion per unit time per growth stage. I am just challenging the statement that young forests sequester more carbon than older forests. One would have to know the changes in biomass of a forest from say 0-10 years, 10-20 years, and the incremental growth of needles, under story, and diameter of a 200 year old forest. I do not think the answer is completely clear
  6. References? Carbon sequestion is proportional to increase of biomass. Are you so sure that the biomass of a young forest is growing so much faster than a old mature forest? It is possible that the increase of biomass is nearly equal, but the growth of young trees are so much more visually apparent. New biomass on a huge old tree could be enormous, but very difficult to measure because it is spread over a large area. Also, one could argue that lawns are better at sequestering carbon than trees
  7. I don't think that this is correct. From my reading of their work (Tabor, Booth, Vance, and Ford, 2002) RW Tabor places Mt. Higgins in the Swauk. Work to the south of this (Heath, 1970) also recognizes the Swauk. The Pinnacles are commonly recognized to be in the Chumstick (Tabor, Bentley, and others 1982; Tabor and others 1987), which is thought to overlie the Swauk (Bentley, Per comm.) Since I'm old, Benny might have a better recollection of the Tertiary stratigraphy than I.
  8. Why can't you just say "the late Larry Kemp"?
  9. I was on the first post-Kurt Cobain ascent of Nirvana Ridge
  10. Fat chance, and then Dru will pop up Hey pal, I got style, and that was only 25 years ago. I look even better now. 100% American made

  12. It was either my Mastercard, or my VISA. Both are Platinum BTW
  13. One of their eco-sensitive sponsors Any climb of Mount McKinley should be possible without sponsors or web pages. Good god, how much sposorship does it take to get to Alaska, and get on a 185?
  14. And Kittitas County has exactly what to do with properties in Grant County?
  15. That's because you're clueless Shit, by some accounts, he wrote either "Beggars Banquet" or "Let it Bleed". The Glimmer Twins screwed him "They"? It was Anita Pallenberg. Oh wait, you don't know who Anita Pallenberg is. She was shacked up with Keith Richards for years, turned him into the "Dark Prince". You do know who Keith Richards is, right? click here Oh yea, he was 26 dumbshit
  16. June is fine, I have seen it snow in Yosemite June 18th. My first two El Cap routes were in July, and it was great. I climbed the Nose in long pants, and the Zode in shorts. My partner climbed both routes in long pants. I have seen it snow in September more than once, as well as being stifling hot in both September and October
  17. Being circumspect is lame-ass bullshit. If the retailer wanted help from the general community they would ask, they post here regularly. Referring to their wares as "Feathery" is stupid and passive. Everyone now knows who was ripped off, but everyone can act like they did not leak the information to the public, and maintain (at least to themselves) the illusion that they respected the privacy of this firm, and allowed the identity of the retailer to remain private
  18. Mattp and Bigtree: You guys are talking apple and oranges. Bigtree has a cordless hammer drill , and a Bulldog is a cordless roto-hammer . The hammer drill is a all-around drill motor, I use mine for drilling, and as a screw gun. I have never used a hammer drill as a roto-hammer, it takes too long. A roto-hammer is much more efficient for drilling concrete (or rock), but is a single purpose tool
  19. REI The seventies Not Lou... Who could it be?
  20. Spackle, or better yet Bondo. Skim the area, and then sand to 200 grit
  21. My caucus was 5 to 2 for Obama. We had a little fun when the math started, and even the "math" teacher in our group didn't know the scientific method of rounding. What I thought was realty cool, was that my 79 year old dad went to the Democratic caucus to support Obama. The last Democrat he voted for for the Presidency was JFK
  22. Geology field camp, Yakima Fold Belt, 1982. A-10 Warthogs loud and low. Real loud, real low.
  23. 1) Image Lake, 1997. EA - 6B's quite a bit below us 2) South Face of Forbidden, 1989. C-130 over Cascade Pass/Sahale Arm. Way below us. 3) Cochise Stronghols, 2006. C-130 even with us 4) Chickenhead Ledge, 1984. Big rainstorm. Big clouds above us, big clouds below us. Little airplane level with us. We were thinking that we were a little fucked, but he was real fucked.
