  1. This thread needs to go away, all the way away. It has become too much a critique of a single fine 16 yo young man, and his bellicose, and potentilly unstable antagonist
  2. Finger thru a bolt, pin, or wire is an even better way of lopping off a finger, especially when aid climbing, or sketched out.
  3. They hardly ever enforce the parking rule anymore. They can't afford to. I'm thinking that camping at the Coulee is on its way out. Grant County doesn't like the bullshit, F&G doesn't, only climbers and partyers do. It's too bad, but I'm sure it'll go day use only, and may become part of the State Parks system. Which is a whole new set of problems, the Parks love gates, and hours, and seasons of operation
  4. I remember once, sitting in the van of a rather well known former Rhodie Loadie and an excellent climber from Hood River. I was the youngest at the time, and I was in my mid thirties. Mr Loadie started slagging on a very rich sport climber from Wyoming. He suddenly stopped, and said "he's just a 26 year old punk kid". So at what age does someone quit being a punk ass mother fucker. I'm thinking that Choads probably about 22 This seems way over the line.
  5. I don't think Ron Kauk was 18 when he did Astroman
  6. The needle issue would go away, but the newest issue would be the costs of dumping the dumpsters every two days. Un-supervised dumpsters become a magnet for those who do not want to pay dump fees.
  7. Whatever is done, short of nothing and/or blue bags is going to be expensive. And something physical will have to be done, there are too many people, and too few will use blue bags. A fair assumption I feel, because IV drug users do not seem like the type to carry a blue bag. 1) Grant County has always been trying to shun off the Coulee and the Gorge. But because they receive a huge amount of money due to concerts in the gorge, they should fairly be expected to give something in return. 2) Real live vaults could easily cost $100 K when it is all said and done. I think that a reasonable analysis of need would show that they should be placed in the parking lot, and in the "main" camping area. You could end with three or four vaults, add to that the costs of site preparation, and maintenance. 3) Climbers need to remember that they have been complaining for years about paying the parking fees. None of this will be free. 4) The Gorge needs to be leaned on for money. A portion of the problem is their customers
  8. I am sorry about that. I was just calling into question the criteria used for banning. You have never done anything worthy of banning ever since you stopped carrying Trapper Nelsons
  9. Yes, it is amazing that you got booted for writing "bolts" and carrying a Trapper Nelson, when this kind of stuff can be posted: The initial quote was not fecks
  10. I wonder if Elizabeth Vargas video tapes anything?
  11. Huh,Elizabeth Vargas
  12. Then that's a problem with the Mountaineers. Start climbing young, okay, whatever, but treating a 15 year old kid as an equal on a climbing trip? For real? Are you fucking crazy? It was a long time ago, so I don't want to get too far into a critique of the Mountaineers. But they do have (had?) a rather rigid hierarchical leadership, which, like the military, could lessen the potential for poor decisions by the underlings. Things seem to go aray when a group a teenagers go thru a descision making process (groupthink), which isn't highly mentally evolved. But the same thing can happen with adults, remember Dick Rumpy, and George deciding to attack Iraq? And these rules do not apply to all teenagers
  13. And that's why you're still a kid, because you don't really get it yet. You're not making decisions with an adult mind, based on a wealth of adult experience, nor are you capable of fully weighing the consequences of your actions in the same way that an adult would, because you can't at your age. You're still a kid. Sure, you've got talent and motivation, but you're not the real deal yet. I started climbing when I was 15, and was always treated well and equally within the confines of the Seattle Mountaineers. I think that Choada's comments are off the mark here. You can start climbing young, and interact with adults on an equal basis (or almost so). John Roskelly mentioned the same thing in an interview from long ago.
  14. Driving is more common than climbing, and auto insurance is more common than climbing insurance.
  15. Nice fantasy. You were lucky enough not to get involved in such a tragedy, perhaps, but you're fooling yourself if you asset that nobody you ever climbed with and none of their family members would ever have sought to recover damages from somebody they perceived as being irresponsible in a way that led to their becoming disabled or killed. Lets see somebody try to answer his question rather than stirring the pot with the rhetoric that belongs in one of your political "discussions." I think you're trying to stir the pot with Scott, and hide behind the original post.
  16. Woody Stark accident And ST discussion
  17. Another good gig
  18. There are some sweet jobs out there in "Gig land". How's this one, sign a contract to work under the table. I don't think a lawyer drew up that contract. I wonder what Judge Judy would say
  19. [img:left]http://i608.photobucket.com/albums/tt163/wellsguy/cnorrisamericanflag.jpg[/img] Happy Birthday
  20. Do not do this. It is called extortion (blackmail). There is a legally prescribed method to deal with a problem of this sort. Be calm and professional with them. Go in and talk to the owner, and ask for new skiis and bindings. If you do not get that, sue them in small claims court.
  21. Thanks for catching that Dru
  22. BITD, Seattle was the location of sleeping bag manufacyurers for REI, TNF, EB, and FF. No more, they are all manufactured in the ROC

  24. When I was a teenager, we used to go the the railroad tracks in Shoreline and practice on the rockery there. South of Richmond Beach Park all the way to Golden Gardens
