  1. Yer not going anywhere. In about a year the State Department is going to take over the airlines’ no-fly list, which means you will have to apply to the government for permission to leave the country. No shit.

  6. My guys were first diagnosed with kidney problems around age 14 or 15. I needed to do rather little for them for a long time after that. Once things got really serious, my recollection is that they lasted something on the order of 14-16-18 months. Caveat: I was super-dedicated to keeping up with their subcute fluids, meds, etc. each and every day. They were pretty sick by then. I would do thinsg differently now. I would not get myself so strung out with their treatment---by the end, I was very stressed and frazzled---nor would I let them linger so long.
  7. Yes, Dru did ask what time it is, not how to make a watch. That said, I stand by my statement that it's better to stay nourished in the first place and never go into ketosis. I am surprised mattp asked the question he did. Tvash's answer is an excellent response. I thought the approach he describes was common knowledge. It is what I do (especially the part about keeping up protein intake) and almost everyone I climb with does too. I know from returning to the athletic gym (particularly Olympic weightlifting) right after a climb that I do not lose muscle mass. I am sure the reason is that I do not become malnourished or dehydrated during a climb. Tvash is exactly right, adequate nourishment and hydration cannot be sensibly or justifiably sacrificed to any higher priority. You will definitely pay more in the long run if you do. He is also right that it is easy to accomplish on the move. Starting a climb in excellent athletic condition goes a long way to help. If the cells are already well-conditioned to efficiently make energy and process water, just that much less will be needed on the move in comparison to people who only cllimb without additional or supplementary physical training.
  8. In September the Pope issued a strong statement warning against global warming and extended that message to make a lengthy commentary about the challenge to water purity and water availability in the face of climate change. Someone is spreading lies. Also, FYI, there is also a large and strong community within American Catholicism that is active on behalf of animal rights. John Paul II issued some sort of formal letter (I don't know the technical term the church uses) praising the work and condemning animal suffering, waste, and cruelty.
  9. I rescued a pregnant female cat from a mall parking lot. I kept two of her kittens. One of them was a female. She came on heat very young, before I could spay her, and had four kittens. I kept two, brothers. One lived about 17-1/2 years and the other to within days of his 19th birthday. Both went down with kidney disease. I nursed both of them longer than I should have, including daily subcute fluids and epogen injections. (I would advise against epogen for a variety of reasons) It is pretty tough to see our little pals go down after so long with us. My memories of their end days sometimes cloud my fuller & happier memories of the many years they were healthy and in good spirits. In general, though, I say that God must surely love both people and cats to have put us together.
