  1. 1. In winter, is that effing boulder field below Heather Pass completely covered? 2. Is the NE Ridge suitable for a winter ascent? 3. What about a descent route in winter? Can that south gully go? thanks
  2. In Cross Fit we do lots of pullups and lots of work on parallettes and parallel bars. So, lots of calluses right there where you describe. I find that sanding and cutting down the calluses works for me. But, when you rip one, we use Super Glue to stick it back in place. It stings like hell for a second but Super Glue was originally invented by a surgeon specifically to glue together surgical wounds. (the kind you buy at retail stores is cooled down, the real McCoy is ‘way more adhesive and cures much faster) Obviously that’s not a solution to the root problem but maybe it can help you.
  3. Thanks for your quick reply. I'm asking because I am going to take a class soon and was hoping to get my gear cheap online. I need to order early to allow for shipping time. Maybe I should just wait. Yes, I'm new to snow safety. I didn't even know that all transceivers were 457kHz. Other folks also have told me to avoid plastic blades. At Feathered Friends' gear night, Petzl had a plastic shovel with a metal edge. I wonder if the edge will detach with use? I will go with an all-metal blade.
  4. I need a shovel, a probe, and a 457kHz transceiver. Any pointers, tricks of the trade, features I need to look for or avoid? Thanks. By the way, that's a SNOW shovel and an AVALANCHE probe.

But that's not...no...I meant Rule .308 is defensive... never mind

Sorry KK, I'm a little paranoid too.

I've always thought liberals would be foursquare for the 2nd Amendment. With these facist Bushites ignoring habeas corpus and wiretapping without warrants, I'd think they'd see the writing on the wall. The police forces in America have been an occupying army for a generation, too, and are becoming less and less subtle about their contempt for the citizens. Both freedom and tyranny come at gunpoint.

Must be Republicans slowing down to read. Too many syllables in that sign.
  9. I'm done with farming! A man would be crazy to get into farming! That's what grocery stores are for! Find a piece of meat, pay for it, and leave! Who needs to look at the same damn cracked cold hard barren piece of ground day in and day out for the rest of his life! I lost a down payment on a farm 20 years ago---never again!
  10. Bare ground, bushes, I don’t give a damn. It’s some other guy’s problem now. Let him work his fingers to the bone keeping that raggedy-ass weedpatch going. I'm just glad I don't have payments.
  11. I thought the leather harness was the closer. I should have gone with how big the plow is.
  12. A sudden cloud passes before the sun and a cold rain begins to fall...
  13. No, the bushes have already been cleared.
  14. And the start of plowing: early in the morning, I love to start early in the morning---slipping the halter in her mouth and tightening the leather harness in place---a light snap of the reins against her rump to get her going---then she leads me out to the field, I follow close behind and murmur quietly to her to keep her focused on the day’s hard, sweaty work ahead of us, the exhaustion melding us two into one.
  15. Is there a plowing song?
  16. And sinking my plow into the earth, driving it forward through the soft, moist earth, why I could plow all day and all night.
  17. I'm always excited to see things sprout...grow big and tall...the luscious fertility of ripening fruit...ah, farming!
  18. My offer to bring over my seed drill and help you with your pumpkins still stands.
  19. Is LNG a viable or realistic alternative fuel? I know the U.S. has huge reserves of natural gas. I guess you need such a huge tank only big trucks can use it, is that right?

Oh shit. A new uniform fantasy.

    what now?

So that's it? Oppose biofuels because the biofuels effort is "pro-car?" Automobiles are categorically demonized? Where did this come from? That will make getting to the TH for a weekend climb kinda tough.
  22. The DNR land on either side of the road north from Sultan up to Spada Reservoir was used as a de facto shooting range for many years. You could mine lead from some of the cutouts on that road. That has been stopped because Everett is moving east and has surburbinized the area. The Snohomish County Council got DNR to ban shooting there. So whur are they gonna shoot now? Index!

    what now?

Around 1:00 this afternoon I was on Leary near Fred Meyer. There was a cluster of cyclists holding signs at a street corner. I only saw one sign, which read "biofuels kill!" WTF? Is there a group that opposes *everything*? Bolts, kitties, biofuels, murder, apple pie, trade with Cuba, park permits: down with it all!
  24. That, and why start now?
  25. Staring at that thing takes me back to the 80s. Well, what I can remember of the 80s.
