Mt. Fund Aids All-Star Pakistani Women's Climb
crackers replied to Dechristo's topic in Climber's Board
Out of curiosity, what do you all think about this project vis-a-vis US foreign policy and Pakistani domestic politics? This will be extremely controversial in Pakistan if they publicize it much, and it's coming at a point of pretty serious political tension and uncertainty in the country. So what do you think? -

Kelly Cordes' Back Story. I'll try to find you the scan of his back. It was sick. -
I would figure out what software you're going to want to make your site work and then pick the host...

I second the go someplace else idea. Or even a climbing area a day... sawtooths, tetons, wind rivers. wild iris, snake river basalt, tensleep, high unitas. high sierra. i wouldn't go to city of rocks...it's hot there in th summer, and why bother chasing the shade when you can climb someplace nice and cool? I'd go to tensleep...

Good to see. I was pretty surprised by how small they were before, cause I'd always thought I had small fingers... I would also note that it looks like they're removable now. Is the trigger movable? John, are those production or more prototypes?

It's obviously too late and dated information, but I got a magellen sport trak black and white four years ago for the following reasons: 1) better world topographic maps. 2) better world road maps. 3) faster aquisition time (saves battery). 4) black and white screen is roughly 60% more energy efficient. 5) smaller screen is more energy efficient. I used this unit on a series of visits to the outer circles of hell and it performed effectively with excellent battery life.

There are a couple of other options, but I'm inclined to agree with this. I think that people without a lot of money aren't using Dermizax, just because of the minimums, but when I look through the Toray header cards, well, yeah. There are some new PFTE type membranes coming out that beat eVent in terms of breathability, but they're expensive.

Georgia, the republic, not the state
crackers replied to enelson's topic in The rest of the US and International.
afaik, there's plenty of cragging and some really good alpine stuff in Georgia. Up and down the valley next to Elbrus, you've got a pretty good amount to do. I'll see if i can find my notes on it. Visit Turkey for some more cragging. And some alpine stuff too... -
I think looks might well be deceiving unless they fixed a couple of problems...but without touching it, I'd have no idea.

Layton, after most chiro's have seen the xrays of my neck they won't touch me. And I don't trust the one's who will on the whole. I am going to get some acupuncture. But like Arch was saying, this is not something that I feel like playing around with... Hey ArchE, did you ever drink a beer when you were on Tegretol?
-
Thanks archenemy. For me this has nothing to do with seizures. Neurologia is intense nerve pain and they give you anti-seizure / nerve blocker meds. Imagine having an electric fence running from your nose to your ear, inside of your head. The tegretol is better than what I was trying before. Neurotin put me to sleep and when I wasn't sleeping I couldn't think. I applied for the job of the village idiot, and was told I didn't qualify...wasn't up to standard. But when I started on the tegretol, i had no coordination and couldn't imagine being trusted with a belay device, let alone the sharp end. However, it seems that was due to alcohol interactions. Negative on MS Thanks for recommending that I check it though.
-
The docs tell you about grapefruit juice but not that drinking a beer is a bad idea... I wouldn't want to take this crap and anything else at the same time. It would be a waste of anything else. I've supposedly got neurologia not epilepsy, but from the warnings, this drug is pretty serious.
-
Ah ha! I drank the night before I took some tegretol and it was like a very very screwed up version of reality minus balance and coordination.
-
Has anybody had trigeminal neurologia or epilepsy? Ever taken tegretol? Ever tried to climb on it?

I realized that due to my brain medication that reduces my intelligence and calls into question my sanity, I forgot to mention any of the legion of reasons I think a zip is a good idea: * melting snow. * cooking. * random anchor quality assurance checks. * incredibly smelly fart ventilation. * if a zip is in the middle, you can't blame me for stealing all the loft. etcetera
-
Is this something you would use? No. As at least some of you know, I'm 6'5", and it seems like I couldn't use it according to your design specs. Otherwise, yes, I would consider this useful, especially if a mod was possible... Is a bag like this commercially viable? Not really, with the emphasis on commercially viable. There are a quite a few people interested in far out gear, but you'll have to keep the things in stock etcetera. The problem is that the people who are most likely to use it size wise(Colin, Kelly Cordes, Maxime Turgeon et al) are also most likely to get / deserve a prodeal or sponsorship. There are other markets. How much would you pay for something like this? At most $300. It sounds like its a consumable. If the bottom sheet is replaceable, then up to $500. What features sound good? The neck gaiter damn thing. The hoods. The scrunchy idea sounds good. Also a partial zipper on each side or in the middle. The footbox. What features sound bad? A lack of a zip sounds real bad. What changes do you suggest? A zip. Epic or eVent. Replaceable bottom sheet. I would like to be able to pull off one or both of the hoods and use it for summer camping / cragging. If it was a bit convertible, the market would be substantially larger. My partner made a couple of things like this for another market using synthetic insulation, and you could probably sell a bunch in that market.

I file the back of the pick sharp. But the real thing is not to overdrive them. Are you still around NYC? I can show you mine...
-
you can drill holes in Entrada sandstone with your index finger, so... Yeah. You use spit instead of a drill down there... But some dude with one BTK prothesis who lives in CO thought that they'd create 4 to 6 times more force than a traditional cam due to their unique loading design. As you pull on them, the cable increases the load on the lobes...

I wear large cloudveil drytooling gloves and I couldn't get my pinky onto the tool. Literally. If the new cobra's grip is as tight as the prototype they were showing at the show, and you have large hands, forget about it. Same with the vipers. None of the guys who wandered over to the booth with me could fit their fingers in the pinky grip either, one fat fingered desert rat couldn't even get his hand on without gloves!
-
I personally could not fit my hands into the pinky rest of the new cobra or viper. I hope they make them bigger.

They're going to have a hard time getting them made in the USA I think. They had a very smooth action and really seemed nice, but I think that the guys who are making them want an aweful lot for something that is not production ready. Somebody brought up the point that they might be too strong for Entrada, and they might just blow rock when you fell on them. At this point though, who knows? It will be cool to see them when there are more than five of them in the world.
