  1. I think this is a very sexist comment. The same could be said for male athletes, there is no difference. It's not like male climbers are all smoking hot and the girls are ugly. WTF? And I completely disagree, I know lots of hot climber girls.
  2. I grew up there, about 40 minutes outside of NYC, and I would have to agree with this statement. However, I went to school in NH and will always love NH and Maine, even though the Massholes are invading... There are amazingly beautiful things to see and great places to climb, just not on the same scale as out here.
  3. Here's the best mountain dog!
  4. Ummm, you don't think bringing the dog up Hood in February when a major storm system was coming in wasn't putting the dog in danger? An accident it may have been, but falling 150' (or however far they determined it to be) down a cliff and getting stranded in a blizzard isn't putting the dog in danger? I'm sure the dog has a heart of gold. They all do. Doesn't change the fact that unfortunately the dog doesn't make it's own decisions, it relies on it's owners to keep it safe. I think the dog would have very gladly sat this one out. Especially if it had broken it's leg in that fall and had to be put down. Maybe the owners should think about that next time they want to take the dog "climbing".

    Dog on Hood

I already ranted about this in the other thread... all tapped out...
  6. Hmmm, I think I feel a sick day coming on...
  7. It's not about whether or not the dog likes to go outside. ALL dogs like to go outside and do fun things. It's about exercising good judgement. If dogs could rationalize such things I'm sure any dog would rather stay at home and sleep, then to be put in dangerous situations - i.e. - possibly dying of hypothermia when it's owners get stranded by bad weather that they knew beforehand was coming, or breaking a leg and possibly having to be euthanized when said owners fall 150' down a cliff. Dog owners owe it to their dogs to make good decisions. If you want to be dumb and ignore bad weather, that's your call, but the dogs don't have the luxury of deciding. I bet that dog would have been much happier on it's cozy dog bed at home.
  8. I read that the climbers were able to walk out with their rescuers. Then why could they not walk out on their own? I'm sure there is probably details we are missing, but it seems to me that if these people had any knowledge of the mountian they were climbing at all they would have: a. not been up there in the first place - the bad weather moving in Saturday night was forecast well in advance. When they decided not to summit on saturday why not go all the way down instead of waiting for the whiteout to come in? b. realized where they were in the am when the weather cleared and hiked out through the White River Snow Park (assuming they could not get back up the slope they had fallen). c. not had put their beloved pet in danger. There is no excuse for this. I bring my dog everywhere, including the crags, and up many mts including Hood and Adams (IN GOOD WEATHER)because he loves it, but if I was insistent on going climbing with even the slightest chance of an iffy forecast, I would leave my dog at home. I could never live with myself if something happened to my dog because i brought it climbing when I shouldn't have. Terrible judgement call, I'm sorry. I think I'm changing my opinion on the MLU issue. I used to think that maybe climbers should be required to use them, but now it seems like people think they have some kind of safety net. Instead of learning to be self sufficient, and make good choices they can just hit their little button and get rescued... kind of crazy.
  9. that is chronic dude. TIMMAY!!!!!! That's excellent. It's my new favorite. My old favorite was "Frodo Failed - Bush Has The Ring"
  10. All this talk of Red Rocks makes me think I have to take a long weekend and get back down there this spring. How far a drive is it to these free hot springs?

    Music

Nice! Lucinda is awesome. Right now - the new one from the Shins. Not as good as the last album, but still pretty great.
  12. As for climbs, I think Frogland was my favorite. Epinephrine was certainly different, and totally wild, scared the s*** out of me! I second the vote for anything in the Black Canyon, what an amazing environment. Dream of Wild Turkeys looks amazing, I wish we had time to do it, I think it's 10a.
  13. Ha! The Golden spike! My partner and I stayed there when we went to Red Rocks two years. That place is one of a kind. I've never been so afraid in my whole life! Cheap, but I think I'll try to get a campsite next time!
  14. Yikes, makes me naesous just watching.
  15. That's foul. Take some Nyquil for pete's sake!
  16. As a native New Yorker I have been very proud of my hometown recently. Smoking bans, no more trans fats.... But this is a little weird. If people can't listen to their ipod without getting run over by a bus or cab, then that's probably because they're dumb. This is absolutely natural selection at work. I mean really in NY it's every man for himself, you should know to look both ways before crossing!
  17. So the story is the release date for the next and last Harry Potter book has been announced - July 21. Woot! It has nothing to do with the end of the (real) world.
  18. C'mon people... I can't possibly be the only Harry Potter fan out there! Or maybe I'm just the only one willing to admit it...
  19. I guess that's what I get for trying to share... I expected to get harassed but not like that. Eww.

    New Avatar...

I just had to share my giddyness with others. So excited I can barely stand it!
  21. Not sure what Atheists you know, but that doesn't fit at all. Actually it fits most Catholics if you ask me...
  22. Right on.
  23. just be glad you're on the winning side I might be on the winning side, but I'm certainly not proud of it. It speaks to the human ego, believing that our survival is more important than any other animals. We're the ones encroaching on their space, they have no where to go, nothing to eat. Don't get me wrong, it was unfortunate for the guy and his wife, but we shouldn't kill the mountain lions for trying to survive, thats just BS.
  24. My favorite part is how they shot and killed two mountain lions and THEN sent them to the lab to see if either had been the one who attacked the guy... Awesome. Damn those evil mountain lines for trying to survive in ever-decreasing environments. Why not just build condos and Targets in every forest and whipe them all out? Oh wait, that's already happening.
  25. That's why I need to move to Squamish, so I can climb locally.
