[TR] Mt. St. Helens - Wormflows/Monitor Ridge 1/14/2007
motomagik replied to alienPDX's topic in Southern WA Cascades
Sounds great, I think I'll be heading up there this weekend for some sunny skiing. No new snow but hopefully it will be a bit softer... -
Hmmm, this further confirms my need to seek political asylum in Squamish....
-
Then why do you go?

That's a great route, what a beautiful desert crack! Did that one when I was there two years ago, can't wait to go back. I hate Vegas, but I love Red Rocks! Nice work!

Another vote for CrossFit. I just started a couple months ago and I love it. I've never been so sore in my whole life, yet I look forward to every class. It's totally getting me through the winter. A sample, the other night it was someone's 29th birthday. There fore our workout was to do 29 rounds of 5 pullups, 10 pushups, and 15 squats. Then we played a game of Hooverball with an 8 lb medicine ball. Good times!

Cruised up to Tom Dick & Harry near Ski Bowl yesterday, we were hoping that the massive amount of snow that fell on Friday/Saturday would make up for the fact that it was pouring rain and windy. Mmmm not so much. It wasn't a total loss though, we got in some turns above the lake and had a way fun ride down. Total skied distance about 3 miles.

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MED/content/MED_2_1x_Global_Cancer_Statistics_2002.asp And another... note how North America had the highest incidence of most cases.

http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/images/pdfs/cs_world_map.pdf Okay, here's one... You'll see that North America is the highest.

Anyone who ever has anything bad happen to them wonders why, and often the second thought is "who can I blame?" This "fluoride is bad for you" is voodoo science. Just like power lines and cancer: no matter how many studies fail to find a correlation, some people will still believe the high voltage towers are why junior had to go through chemo. Let me repeat, totally insensitive wankers. I never asked who I could blame for getting cancer, please don't put words in my mouth. I simply asked, hmmm I'm 23, why do I have cancer. Maybe you should get some cancer yourself and see how you like it when people attack your intelligence for trying to figure out why.
-
You know what? I can't help it F*** you all! Do any of you assholes read???? I never claimed that flouride in my toothpaste caused my cancer. I said that getting a non-hereditary cancer at age 23 is not normal and there are many REASONS (read - plural) why cancer rates are higher in this country than elsewhere. Which they are. Damn, sometimes I wonder why I bother with this site at all. I get congratulated for being a survivor and then made to sound like an idiot who doesn't know what she's talking about. You're all a bunch of wankers.
-
I'm a cancer survivor, and when you are diagnosed with cancer at 23 years old you start wondering why... The books I read brought it to my attention that flouride is extremely toxic, that's why you are not supposed to swallow your toothpaste... That's my not-so-great contribution to the subject. All I know is there are reasons why the rates of cancer in this country are unheard of in all other areas of the world.

Chances are if he was going around S.America (otherwise known as the very infamous Cape Horn), then he didn't have a choice about sailing in bad weather or not. The weather patterns created by the southern ocean in this area are the most intense anywhere in the world. Sailors who venture here need to be very confident in their skills (heave-to, running bare poles/storm rigging, sea anchors, etc.) in order to be prepared, because unlike most other places bad (even horrendous) weather is commonplace. When you undertake a trip of this sort there aren't any options, you just deal best as you can with what gets thrown at you. I had my first offshore sailing voyage this past summer (to go to Squamish from Portland actually, to climb!), and it is a whole other world. Good luck to him, if he is able to stay with his ship until help arrives or the weather settles then he should be in okay shape.

Just bat those pretty blues of yours... I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding a belay! Ha ha.

I'd definitely be interested but it doesn't look like they are actually hiring for a position yet... I checked the cities website and it didn't list anything about this position???

We all know how you feel about NH Bill... but ummm, this post is actually about Maine.

That's going to be a great trip Chris. No, I hadn't heard about Acadia, that's crazy. I wonder how much the routes were affected. I'm hoping to make it back east sometime this spring/summer myself. I've haven't been back in almost 2 years, so it's probably time! Plus I'd really like to get to the Gunks and maybe White Horse and Cathedral in NH. Hope you guys have a good New years, see you soon?
-
Hey Chris, The Knife Edge is awesome! Other than that, I have no idea. I did this so long ago (freshman in college I think!)I can't really remember what the rock was like, but I'm sure any technical routes would be awesome. You'll have to let me know what you find out. If it isn't tourist season yet you should hit the climbing in Acadia, it's awesome! -Sue

This past summer, sailed boat from Portland Oregon to Squamish BC. Hooked up an awesome slip at the Yacht Club and climbed Squamish everyday for 5 weeks straight. Then sailed home. Nothing better. When am I moving to BC????? Any Canadians out there know of any jobs available?

Perfectly said.

Ummm...I think that's what he's saying he's doing. Regardless if you agree with him or not, ya gotta admire the guy for his conviction. Umm, if what someone else says is true and this guy climbs at Smith, then no, I don't think we should admire shit about his conviction. Sounds pretty hypocritical to me. Personally, I think if you can't admire the beauty of many of the Smith routes than you are missing out. Yes, many are over-bolted and chalked out, but the lines are amazing. I think it would be a shame if lines like To Bolt and Just Do It were never done.

I have a pair of brand new, never used skate skis. They are a few years old but they have never seen the snow. I am 5'6" about 110 pounds. They don't have bindings on them, but you could pick up a pair really cheap I'm sure. I'm in PDX though, this might be a problem. I'd sell them for $60- Either that or I'd sell my older pair that do have bindings for $45-, and keep my new ones.... When I have to drive 2 hours to go skating I don't go often enough to need two pairs of skate skis.

Well despite negative forecasts my partner and I are going to give it a go... I figure at least it won't be crowded!

Yes, I meant West face NEWS, that last pitch is the best crack pitch I have ever climbed, loved it!
