Another excellent book recommendation on the subject - The Food Revolution. Amazing. If you care at all about what you eat, read this book.

An excellent issue, but I wish the movie wasn't quite so boring so that it would have had wider appeal. Look what Al Gore did for Global Warming... Anyway, these issues have been around for a long long time and yet still the general public has no idea of the dangers we are facing... Monsanto is the epitomy of evil. I hate that part about the poor Canadian farmer who lost everything and then still lost in court, horrible...

Mt. Fund Aids All-Star Pakistani Women's Climb
motomagik replied to Dechristo's topic in Climber's Board
Normally I would agree with this statement but not in the case of a Muslim country. In other places, where women are already considered equals, of course this would be true. But in places where women can be arrested for wearing brightly colored scarves, they need to have the chance to shine on their own. I think this sounds like an amazing opportunity, and an excellent cause. In all muslim countries women are standing up for their basic human rights, and the world should be supportive. -
This is a completely ridiculous analogy.

I work with a girl named Alison Butt. If i were her I'd get married ASAP.
-
You say that like they can rationalize. They go where the food is. "Oops I strayed too far up the river, that gives the humans the right to gun me down" Yeah okay.

Another reason why idiots shouldn't be allowed to have guns. I hope this tool gets the maximum $20,000 fine. http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/news/1177041313284700.xml&coll=7

You might feel differently if you were a student at VT, or Columbine today. Just because this happened in Virginia doesn't mean it couldn't just as easily have happened in a school in your neighborhood. Or your job office, etc. I don't think it's too much to ask that anyone who has been committed to a mental institution shouldn't be allowed to buy a Glock.
-
You guys are no fucking different. The first thing out of many of your mouths, in reaction to this tragedy, is how guns should be banned. I never said we should ban guns. I said that automatic weapons should not be readily available to psychotic mentally disturbed people, especially teenagers and college kids. They shouldn't be readily available to the general public at all. But nice try.
-
Exactly. Better late than never. Maybe if things had changed after Columbine, or after the psycho DC area sniper, then we might not have to be having this argument. This issue is not about people who want to own a hunting rifle. The problem is how an extremely disturbed college kid was able to buy a gloc or whatever the hell it is. A crazy person without a gun is just a crazy person. A crazy person with a gloc (sp? I have no idea) commits a massacre and kills 32 innocent people. Wise up people.
-
What an absolute ignoramus (sp?). So typical that these are the first words out of Bush's mouth.
-
Exactly. There is simply NO need for the general public to have access to these weapons. People want to go out and kill deer and shoot birds, whatever. You don't need automatic weapons for it. BTW, death toll has risen to 33. Hurray for guns.
-
For someone who doesn't like it when people speak for him (see Infinite Bliss thread) you certainly took it upon yourself to put words in my mouth. I didn't say to make guns illegal. *Personally* I think this would be excellent but I'm not naive enough to expect it to happen. I just think that something needs to change in terms of gun control laws and availability. There has to be a better way.
-
Oops, right, my bad. They changed their ways after the Columbine incident. Gosh thanks for setting me straight. Like I said, ignorance is bliss.
-
Ignorance is bliss. This is the stupidest cop-out argument ever. Right to bear arms comes from a time when a teenager couldn't walk into K-mart and buy an automatic rifle to shoot their classmates with. It's time for people to open their eyes and realize we live in a slightly different society. If we expect these incedents to stop then we need to make some changes.

Crossfit Yeah baby! Cycling/Mt biking Learning to teleski Gardening Playing with my puppy dog A little running Hey Minx, where do you ride? What discipline? I rode and taught eventing/hunters professionally for about 6 years... I guess thats why I don't do it anymore. The lesson I learned - keep your hobbies as hobbies, or else you won't like them anymore!

10.b is right. Most of the pitches are less. The last couple 10.b pitches near the top are really cool, steep. My advice is to definitely simul as much as you can, I think we simuled all the lower slab pitches.
-
Climbed it, loved it, awesome good time. Not ashamed to say it. Except the 6 hours of rapping down in the dark. That wasn't such a good time. Damn rap anchors are hard to find in the slabs at night!

I've been having the same problems all morning. Good thing I use my gmail account for most stuff, it actually works!

Climbing Access Arches NP threatened WRITE LETTER!
motomagik replied to Alpinfox's topic in Access Issues
Okay, I'll bite, even though it is totally off subject. Heres the list: 1. First and foremost the rock is the greasiest, nastiest stuff I have ever climbed. You might as well chop your feet off for all the good they do you. Classic Crack? Disgusting. Whatever isn't greasy is covered in dirt or moss. 2. The CROWDS. For whatever reason, every newb class in Oregon chooses this place to set up marathon top ropes. I remember I was desperate (key word) to get some climbing in one Saturday morning because I had something to do later in the day. You would think if you went to Broughton at 7 in the morning, surely you would get a little peace and quiet? Not so much. 3. The manky anchors/bolts. Apparently everyone else feels the same way about Broughton as I do because nobody wants to put in the time or money to replace anything (myself included!). 4. The locale. Yeah, Gandalf's is kind of a fun route except for the marvelous views of the trailer park and the outlet mall, oh and you get to inhale all the benzene from I-84 while you climb. Awesome. I will say this, Red Eye is a pretty fun little route, even if it is only 3 bolts long. With the notable exception of Beacon, the climbing around Portland is nothing to get excited about, to say the least. Don't take it personally. -

I have...lots of times...bored silly! My point exactly. That's why we should all be concerned about our privileges to climb other places that don't suck ass. -

Exactly. Kevbone, you are a total douchebag. Since the implications of Potters publicity stunt are completely lost on you, why don't YOU go climb something else. The rest of us who enjoy amazing unique places might like to be able to climb there someday. Why don't you go run some laps out at the mall,,, er I mean Broughton. Totally rad brah!
