    Bike Commuting

Messenger bags never did it for me for commuting. They are designed for people who get off and on their bikes often and fast, and need quick access to their stuff. When I see commuters using messenger bags, I watch them make constant adjustments as they want to swing forward. I know there are design improvements for messgenger bags, but a backpack or panniers are made to stay put. I kinda like that. And these panniers I used lock on and come off easily. Bike Commuting

After some deliberation, I decided to try the whole pannier thing. I like the roominess and fact I can load them up with more crap. I am still adjusting to the side wind effect. I think for many cases, I favor the pack, but I like the added room and convenience of panniers. -r
  4. I called yesterday (6-13). They did not have a current update, but the 21 road is open, and 2150 still has up to 2 feet of snow on it. Snow levels were at 3800 feet as of 6-6. I am calling again tomorrow for an update. -r
  5. I had a pair of BD poles. They are solid, and the flicklock stays put. The ones I had also had a push button locking device for the lower 1/3 and this was very problematic for me. I agree that the twist locks get finicky under lots of temp changes, but the design is simple and easy to work on. For now, I am sticking to Leki. -r

    Identity Theft

I had my checking account debit card # jacked and Wells Fargo was really good about putting the money back after faxing one simple form to them. Both fraud reps I talked to asked me if I was at restaurants lately as opposed to asking if I did I-Net shopping lately. Seems like the card gets handed to 1 or more people and is exposed to many sets of eyes. The dipshit that jacked my card paid their past due electric bill with the card, and it was fun to see them nail the SOB. Take care. -r

  10. I apologize for apologizing. Sorry. I was in the Patagonia store shortly after the climb and asked the clerk if they got a lot of comments on the climb. He said I was the fist one to ask, but they had a well rehearsed speech crafted by the corporate office. -r

  15. Actually I think he likes it down there and wants to be banned simply to cut ties with the PNW community. He is being assimilated. -r

  21. Wow Bellingham's PREMIERE pirate band is playing. Pirates R Us Bellingham, WA. Bellingham's premiere pirate band first performed in the early summer of 2005, at the final Poetry Night Open Mic at the legendary and much-missed Stuart's Coffeehouse on Bay St. The line-up was David Stray Ney on guitar, David Zhang on erhu (a traditional Chinese instrument, pronounced AR-hu) and Ivan Owen on accordion. They sang a song that David and Ivan had written called the Ballad of Captain Crunch, a homage to John Draper, the original phreaker. "Entertaining along the same lines as a mullet..." I'm going to only make it to 81. Shit. I'd better quit my job and do some serious playing. -r
  25. I just got back from 5 days in the N. Cascades with a lot of mixed weather. These guys worked out pretty good for me. Comfy, warm etc. We did luck out with sun the latter part of the trip, so keeping anything dry was a piece of cake. I'll use them again on multi-day stuff in the PNW and where climates are similar. -r
