I think how physically attractive men and women are is more closely tied to their health then their age. There are certainly cultures or groups that take things to extremes (indiginous polynesian cultures on one end and the whole heroin chic thing on the other) but in general women who are in the 40's and in good shape physically and mentally are much more attractive then the chicks who are skin and bones at 17 or significantly overweight at 20. Of course as people age they're physical condition often goes to shit but that's a seperate story. In the last 20 years i've watched my dad go from being in great alpine climbing shape, to sporting a pretty good belly, and it has much more to do with activity level than age. So is the average 40 year old more likely to be couchbound and overweight and therefore rathe unattractive? Probably OOps! Almost forgot

Easy for you to say- you're in your meat-eating days and still fuckin hot. Let the rest of us squabble amongst ourselves true...but apparently i've only got a year before gravity overtakes my breasts. Better show em' off now then.
  7. By most accounts climbing Rainer isn't a "fun" climb. From everything i've heard the standard routes are relatively straight forward uphill walks at an altitude roughly 10-12,000 ft above where you live, with a whole 1 night to acclimitize. If your looking to learn to climb, and to have some fun pick some more enjoyable and slightly easier climbs to start with. Baker is good and the Boulder route doesn't see that many people, Sahale is easy and gorgeous, Glacier is a hump in but the scenery is beautiful there will likely be almost no-one there and the Sitkum route is pretty benign. Loads of cool stuff in this area besides Rainer! That said, I haven't been up Rainer yet but am planning on slogging up the Coleman this year

    It's snowing!

    It's sticking in Shoreline too!
  9. The first place I saw them for sale was from Cloudveil, i'm guessing because they're almost perfectly suited to the tetons. They're really at their best when it's dry and cold, shed the wind and the snow and breath fine. Up here in the wet they're still pretty nice htough
  10. "Dry Tooling" is starting to look not so dry
  11. I think we have enough tools for 2 ropes, and i've got an extra set of Grivel G-12's. If you've got your boots and clothes that's probably all that's necessary.
  12. 3:00 again?
  13. So, how do BD Crossbows stack hold up for ski's? It looks like I may have found a reasonable set of boards/bindings Thanks!
  14. Also have two pair and Plus they ditched to stupid stretchy belt thing that they used of have. Does anyone have any slick tricks for getting the fuzzy stuff off soft shell stuff? The pants are in good condition but the knees are covered in nylon fuzz from getting dragged up cracks.
  15. Slightly off topic, but how do BD Crossbows and Freerides stack up? There's a pair in the Yard Sale that i'm thinking about picking up but wanted to run it by the Peanut Gallery first since I've been out of the ski loop for a while. CHeers!
  16. Bump... So who's going to be there on thursday? Have a new toy to try out and i'm itching to use it!

    EDK rappells

the EDK is an overhand knot with long tails.
  18. You sure Mike? Might wanna tell The American Chiropractic Association and the US Department of Labor about that. Back on topic, HERE is a really good article on poison ivy. Good links! DM/DO "It takes many years of education and training to become a physician: 4 years of undergraduate school, 4 years of medical school, and 3 to 8 years of internship and residency, depending on the specialty selected." Chiro. "Most State boards require at least 2 years of undergraduate education; an increasing number are requiring a 4-year bachelor’s degree. All boards require the completion of a 4-year program at an accredited chiropractic college" So between 6 and 8 years of School for a Chiro. or 8 years of School followed by 3 to 8 years of supervised practice/apprenticeship (not to mention the DO's/DM's I know haven't had a summer off since they started school. That's more time for practice after all).
  19. Is that just classroom time? DM training is more than just the school work. Even the 3 or 4 year residency time ammounts to an apprenticeship. Somehow I doubt it's possible to squezze any more training/practice into an 8 yr period than the folks I know going through DM and DO programs.
  20. You're here, aren't you? And just who do you propose be the judge of "how well suited they are to society and/or the environment". I haven't had kids so i'm not out of the evolutionary game yet. I can still do something stupid, kill myself off, and not pass on my inherently inferior traits. After all, I do climb for fun, I can't be that well evolved. Of course I was a relatively tough kid, I got dropped on my head at least 3 or 4 times , and some days I can still keep up on here

    hybrid cars

I thought TDI was Turbo Diesel Injection? And I'm in Grad-school for a whole 3 weeks more (unless I screw the pooch on my final exam) so by "advisor" I mean "grad-program advisor/committee chair"
  22. it's sad but it's evolution in action. Does anyone else think we've kind of short-circuited the whole survival-of-the-fittest thing? Everyone and anyone can now procreate to their hearts content, and in 1st world countries pretty much all of the offspring are guaranteed live to an age where they can have their own kids, regardless of how well suited they are to society and/or the environment, and pass on their genes/behaviors. I just wonder if one of these days it's going to come back bite us in the ass?

    hybrid cars

If your looking for fuel efficiency this seems the way to go. Some of the new VW get 50mpg or some such insanity. While the hybrids are coming in around 40+. Relatively low-tech, proven systems have something that can be said for them. It seems half the hybrid push has been slightly better gas mileage and higher HP, which is lame. My advisor also has a Prius and likes it. I wonder which is actually better for the environment. Diesel seems to be a slightly dirtier fuel, but there's nasty shit that goes into making/disposing of batteries.
  24. hmmm, once spent a 4 hr drive in the middle of the summer, without air conditioning, with 4 people in the mazda equivalent of a geo-metro. Oh, and I forgot to mention that our dog had just been skunked

    Care Package

Wankers one and all, well almost anyway. Had a buddy who got back not too long ago and we sent lots of non-perishable, non-crunchable muncies. Beef jerky, peanut butter, tinned cookies, etc, along with a few magazines and lots and lots of books. They're heavy but they went over really well. They ended up in a kind communal library that got passed around.
