Have you heard Toots in Memphis? Toots Hibbert reggaetizes R&B classics such as Knock on Wood and Hard to Handle with Sly and Robbie on riddim and Teenie Hodges and Eddie Hinton on guitar. Yes I!
  2. Good call. I totally resent unsolicited junk mail.

    Art?

    It looks dead.
  4. I'm gonna keep sending the stuff back. --It gives me pleasure.
  5. Living here in Taholah, we have no paper recycling pickup. Of course, I still receive daily credit card offers in the mail. So, lately, I've been crossing my name out on the contents of credit card mailings, re-inserting all the paper into the business reply envelope, and sending it all back to the company. I even use scissors to cut up the outer envelope the stuff comes in and inserting that into the business-reply envelope as well. It all goes back. What do you think of this scheme? One con that comes to mind immediately is that I'm wasting the energy of the Postal Service carting this tripe back to the credit card predators...
  6. The Da Vinci Code WAS lame. I was at my in-law's house in Colorado over Christmas and made the mistake of picking up a Tom Clancy book and reading it. It was about twin brothers --a marine officer and an FBI agent-- who are recruited by a super secret agency to assassinate terrorists. Tom Clancy --Now THERE'S a moron with a word-processor. It was like reading driving directions in Mapquest!
  7. Awesome views. That N side drops right off to Ross Lk. I'd love to have been standing up there looking at that... Good job on the TR.
  8. Taholah. Sung to the tune of the Kinks' "Lola" There's a little village by the River Quinault, And the people down there live by the side of the ocean. I'm movin' to Taholah. h-o-l-a Taholah.

    As For Poets

Snyder is the rockin poet zen master.

  13. They are not at all doing what they originally set out to do, and IMO not a worthy group to support if you want to be able to access the backcountry. As a former Greenshirt (and I mean that with the utmost respect) I'm surprised you'd endorse the NCCC after how the treat Palleck and the current NCNP leadershipadmin in their propaganda. Blake - Outline your beef with NCCC, I'm curious to hear more about it. I know they've been critical of Palleck re: land exchanges in Stehekin... but what else do you disagree with? My biggest beef with them is that they focus too much on the Stehekin Valley.
  14. What nonprofit have you doled out $$ to in the last year? My personal favorites: The North Cascades Conservation Council, MoveOn.org

  16. Food unit: Drill a hole in the end of the handle of a lexan soup spoon. Tie the spoon with a leash to the handle of a 2 cup plastic measuring cup. When you're not eating, you can try to flip the spoon into the cup.

    What'd Ya Get?

My father in law tied me up some flies. My spouse gave me an autographed copy of Gary Snyder's new book danger on peaks. I also got a Bongo Billy's T-shirt (spent Christmas in Colorado...), and a little tiny Bhudda.
  18. Geordie is disqualified from answering any of my questions. Bill Lester was directed to paint the bear by his supervisor. I think the bear was later shot. He was a backcountry ranger in the Enchanted Valley, and also served as the Lake Ozette Ranger before he moved to NOCA. The cabin is just above the road before one passes through the gate below the hairpin. A toilet vault is a fiberglass box with a hole in the top. It sits inside a wooden toilet box and collects waste until it is full, then it is dumped into a compost bin. Sometimes the vault is too full, and then it is difficult to dump (think splatters...), which once led John Dittli to have to shave his mustache off. The Sulphide toilet is probably higher than the Sahale Glacier box. Fact-checkers? That leaves the other name of the Hidden Lake Lookout?
