  1. when has the RAND() function failed you? Excel 2003 and newer has a revised random number generator algorithm. Even the old algorithm was sufficient for probably 99.9%+ of all users.
  2. click on the first column of the row below those you want to freeze. go to Window: Free Panes
  3. i heard rumors of blowdowns, but have no direct confirmation
  4. http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=745098
  5. i take it this means you are heading to Marble? thx for the update.
  6. i.e. =B2-$A$1
  7. placing dollar signs in front of the column and row locks that cell. you can also cycle through locking iterations by pressing F4 with the cursor next to the prospective locked cell in the formula.
  8. i was being sarcastic in calling House and Cordes noobs, not you.
  9. so i answered your original question, then you insult me. i dont claim (nor am I) to be a good ice or alpine climber. I certainly don't have the skill or experience of Don Serl, but I do have first hand experience with leashes, tethers, and leashless, and I am expressing my experience. I reckon it is far more helpful than your (builderbob) insults and misinformation.
  10. seems to me some of the most significant alpine routes in the world are being climbed with tethers. For me, on moderate alpine terrain, the increased security to not drop a tool, coupled with the advantages/efficiencies of leashless climbing make tethers worthwhile.
  11. noob:
  12. the mad rock alpinist is not a paricularly light weight boot (4lb 10oz) Much lighter weight boots are the Sportiva Trango Ice, Asolo Cholatse and Scarpa Freney. At 3lb 6oz the cholatse is one of the lightest insulated ice/alpine boots I've seen.
  13. fair enough. it is great news for the scientific community!
  14. Regarding the moral class, I highly doubt the average opposition would care at all about stem cell research (in fact i suspect they would support it) if it weren't for the prominent political-religous figures speaking against it.
  15. I agree that any advances in genetics research benefit society as a whole, but I find it unfortunate that so much research is on hold while we wait for these interim solutions.
  16. Agreed that this is exciting work, but is it really win-win when some of the world's top scientists must contribute so much of their energy away from medical progress just so they can appease a ridiculous moral class. Imagine a farmer with a crop of corn, unable to harvest, and forced instead to figure out how to grow corn on trees. Does not seem like the most beneficial use of resources.
  17. will gadd has a new site: www.gravsports-ice.com lots of current info. there is also www.livethevision.com , although will's site seems to be getting more traffic already.
  18. i'd disagree with that. i think you have every right to return them if the sales people told you definitively that they were half ropes. the shop has more responsibility to be properly informed than the customer. they could just as easily have looked at the rope ends, and they should know the markings are there.
  19. fyi, i think that ce requires that the end of the ropes be marked with the ropes usage http://www.thebmc.co.uk/Feature.aspx?id=1440
  20. i wouldnt use twins as halfs, even if simply for the psychological aspect. i would hope that 2nd ascent would take them back, given that they misrepresented them to you.
  21. on sale today for 20% off. add 20 % off coupon (59488) and you can get both tools for $236 shipped.
  22. the previews for the new beowulf looked idiotic, but it actually got really good reviews. did you go see it Ivan? wondering if it is worth the time/money. i liked the new king kong. the special effects were amazing and I liked the story.
  23. that video is awesome. if we could get a 70mpg diesel in the states, i'd be psyched to check one out.
