  1. Once I left toyota in the middle of the Timberline lot on a busy afternoon to go up overnight, when I got back my car was about 100yds away next to the snow wall. Apparently my e-brake didn't hinder the mighty snow plow of justice. No pass and no ticket that time!
  2. I never got an answer last time I posted but I'll try again. Black Spider been climbed? Who/When?
  3. I thought people usually traversed the KER on it's south side, it looks like you guys went up and over. If that's the case, how was the rock?
  4. The north face of the St Helens crater.....YEA!! These are the kind of ideas I was searching for! Noles, totally agree with you "if it ain't been done yet, it probably ain't worth it", but a climber can dream can't he? I was throwing the idea out there mostly to see if any other alpine/rock folks had any ideas my little brain hadn't thought of. I always hear about the black spider..... What's the history on that beautiful piece of stone?
  5. I was wondering if anyone else out there has ever thought about what the "last great Oregon climbing objective" might be on our little "hills", and if there even is one. I read a discussion a while back on the W. face of the Matterhorn in the EC's and someone threw out that title. Are there any elusive routes still our there? How about a Broken Top full crater rim traverse????? Ideas.....?
  6. Illumination Saddle is not far out of the way at all (20 min), and one of the best places to camp on the mountain. Works well for groups.
  7. What kind of camera were you using?.......Sharp image.
  8. Hey Tex! My guess would be more like every 2 months from my limited observations. I followed it in Feb. and really liked the bottom half, but that's about it. Solid pro though.
  9. I found out that on this trip (after noticing an absence of gloves on most of the climb) that the Bulldog dips his hands and feet regularly in ice water and holds them there until he can't feel anything.... "as training".
  10. Seems like every other trip report I read about the Sandy HW someone gets tagged!!?? The Sandy looks like it falls at that really annoying angle of not steep enough to be fun, but steep enough to work hard.
  11. A buddy and I attempted Wash in a day about this time of year several years ago by hiking (post holes all the way) with no showshoes, getting to the pinnacle. Full day event. We took off from the snowpark strait East of Hayrick Butte and followed the road a little more than a mile, took a short left, then just xc'd near the PCT to the mountain. The guy I was with got so tired he forgot where he was and barely made it the last mile. Skins or shoes would make short work of that trip.
  12. I never heard if they indeed topped out.? Or anyone else in history?
  13. Crackman, Did you attempt to pull out the fella who burried his explorer in the drift? My Toyata (w/ chains) couldn't budge him. I'll make an attempt at posting a nice shot of you guys leading bent screw. -Later
  14. Could someone comment on what they have been finding/climbing in the gorge yesterday or today. IS IT WORTH A 3+ HOUR DRIVE? ...Thanks
  15. Anything forming up round Leav yet? I'll be there the first of the year. Have pointy things, will hike.
  16. That's easily the best photo I have ever seen of the Thayer.... Thanks!! In other pics (oregon high) I have seen snow piled up on the NE shoulder of the Prouty, ALMOST to the summit at different times. I am also aware of how steep that is.... Especially if one were to already be going 20mph when they first hit snow!!!
  17. They say it's "impossible" from the true summit. But is it possible? Has it ever been contemplated, attempted or completed to anyone's knowledge?
