  5. weather looks great (so far) on east side at least where I'm headed ask jmace. he is the weather man you are still a little to far out to be drawing any solid conclusions about weather... tomorrow after the afternoon update should give you a good idea of what to expect
  6. Cheers to Bill What pub does Bill frequent? Big Horse? What is the story behind "Plutonium"? When is he thinking about Rainier?
  7. Matterhorn has some rock routes. The outdoor program leader at Whitman is a great guy... send him an email and he should be able to help you out.
  8. GB: Freezing levels in the spring rarely dip below the elevation of the start of the route... it will be fine. Just start super early... the warm weather of recent has settled any avy concerns out so you only risk a post hole session. See my earlier post in this thread for other beta. Looking at the weather I would be more concerned about the storm rolling through. Kevino: If by special beta you mean a description Jim Nelson's is good. Additionally look at any TRs for SGC and look at (even better print them off) any pics. You can also look at West Ridge TRs but keep in mind you won't start the ridge until after Long John's Tower. Great beta for west ridge: http://tumtum.com/climbing/routes/02-07-19-StuartWRidge.txt Soon me a PM/email if you have other questions.

  10. Edit STUMPTOWN!
  11. Its been a 10+ years since I was last up there but that sounds about right... Kinda depends on the length of your rope I would think... What I do remember is you keep traversing until you can see up the bowling alley... hard to miss that.
  12. Crossfithel offers a number of classes specific to particular "areas of interest" one of those being fire fighters... that particular class... and as a result the workouts of the day they do... gets one in shape for the physical exam that firefighters take as a part of getting a job. That work out they are doing involved 3 rounds of: 15 overhead squats w/ 95 lbs 450 m run w/ firehouse 40 tire hits for time. Come suffer Bill. You would love it
  13. I would never call anyone who hikes all of downey creek a wimp 10 hours from PDX w/ the time zone change. I'd drive 15 for the sawtooths though Word on the street is this was one of the lowest snow years for Idaho in a long time City of Rocks next weekend!
  14. One trick you can use a little later in the season is at the traverse instead of going straight across belay the leader straight up where he/she can drop into the snow moat that forms in between the upper "wall" and the snowfield. The moat provides safe walking across to where you have to descend to get around the rock finger and into the bowling alley. If you are uncomfortable downclimbing out of the moat just fix a long long sling and use it as a hand line to get down to get to the bowling alley. Make sense?
  15. On Saturday, June 2nd, 2007, CrossFit Human Evolution Labs will have an open BBQ for all members, member candidates, and guests. This is an open BBQ and they will supply the meat and "refreshments" - you bring the sides. The party will start at 2:00PM and go until everyone leaves. RSVP's are encouraged so they can get an idea on how much food to get - and how many kegs to get! To RSVP, call or email. www.crossfithel.com Good opportunity to see what crossfit is all about.
  16. Don't hate me because I'm beautiful 5 bucks says I'm farting in that photo :laf:

  18. PG 13: long(er) runout(s). will feel like R to someone who is leading at their limit. long fall but slim chance of getting hurt doing so. some good examples at madrone R: run out and/or will hurt self if one falls at a particular point(s) on a route. good example: no gear above a potential ledge and/or ground fall... death unlikely but broken ankles likely X: death
  19. Weekend actually has to climb on a regular basis before he can stop climbing Then again since WA state now recognizes "life partners" he and Beckey can finally constitute their "partnership"
  20. Erik Even if this warm weather continues SGC generally stays in until the 1st or 2nd week of June... what usually happens is the schrud generally gets too large to bypass before the route actually melts out (though it might be an option to access the couloir from the rock on either side if the schrund is too big). If you do go in and this warm weather continues just make it a point to start extra extra early to make sure you are in/climbing the couloir well before first light. The upper snowfield catches morning sun and quickly turns into a post hole session in the sun. Check and see what time the sun rises before you go and adjust you start time to ensure you are well up the couloir before the sun rises. Generally first light is an hour before the listed sunrise time. Finding the couloir even in the dark is easy to do so basically there is no such thing as "too early" for SGC. Hope this helps. Shoot me a pm if you have any other beta questions.
